Math for Rising 8th Graders
In the 2023-24 school year, the State of Georgia Department of Education will be implementing new math standards with revised math sequence courses and new sequence options that provide students with a deeper exploration of the foundational AKS for each grade level. Recognizing that there will be new course sequences offered at the state level, understanding the impact of the two-year pandemic, and considering what is best for students, Gwinnett County will be revising the 6-12 math sequence effective SY 2023-24. With this in mind, Osborne Middle school wants to provide additional math placement recommendations for rising 8th graders during the transitional 2022-23 school year.
We invite you to view an informational video regarding rising 8th grade math placement for the 2022-23 school year. You may click here to access the video and click here to read an accompanying Q&A sheet.
This Thursday, your child's current math teacher will be sending home a math placement recommendation letter, which should be signed by parents and returned to the math teacher no later than Monday, March 7th. After viewing the video and Q&A sheet and receiving your child's math placement letter, if you have any questions regarding the placement recommendation, please reach out to their current math teacher.
