Magill Elementary School

Empowering Life-Long Learners

  • Meet The Principal

    Dr. Guerlene Merisme

    Dear Magill Elementary School Family,

I am Guerlène Merisme, and I am honored to introduce myself to you as the new principal of Magill Elementary School.  I am very grateful for the opportunity to partner with you, the wonderful Magill community, to continue the great tradition, pride, and success at Magill ES. Though I have not worked in the South Gwinnett Cluster, I am no stranger to the cluster’s dedication to its students and families. My daughter attended Norton ES, Snellville MS, and South Gwinnett HS. My sons attended Rosebud ES and Grace Snell MS.  I am excited to serve the cluster as a principal.

My career in education began in New Jersey in 1996 where I had various experiences as a preschool teacher, elementary school teacher, middle school English Language Arts teacher, reading specialist, and instructional coach. My family and I moved to Gwinnett County in 2006. Since then, I have served the district as an elementary school teacher, reading specialist, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal.

My educational background includes earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Elementary Education from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in Reading Specialization from Kean University, a specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Valdosta State University, and a doctorate degree in Leadership from Valdosta State University.

As your principal and partner in education, my role will be to support teaching and learning. My professional and personal experiences have helped me to solidify my passion for providing all students with a strong academic and social-emotional foundation to ensure their success now and in the future. I firmly believe that all children can learn. Therefore, my vision for Magill ES is that all students have access to an environment that supports learning and gives our students the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes to reach their fullest potential.

During the next month, I will be hosting several opportunities for us to get acquainted. I look forward to getting to know each of you as we work together to help our students meet their goals. I pledge my full support, hard work, and dedication to ensuring the success of every student at Magill Elementary School.

    Proud to be your principal,

    Dr. Guerlène Merisme
