Counseling Appointment Requests

Our Senior Appointments are a VERY IMPORTANT part of making sure that students are provided VALUABLE information about graduation, preparation for college entry, and many other topics. Senior Appointments are a time when each senior and their parents will have an individualized one-on-one appointment to discuss each senior’s current progress toward graduation. Your cap/gown and diploma will NOT be ordered until you have your meeting with your counselors. 

Senior counseling appointments will begin in September. 

Please be sure to check your GCPS GSuite email for messages from your counselor throughout the year.

It is now time to schedule your senior portraits through Cady Portrait Studios! You MUST have your Senior Portrait taken by Cady Studios in order to be included in the yearbook and in the graduation slideshow. Taking your Senior Portrait is the 1^st step toward commemorating your 2023 graduation. Please complete the tasks below as soon as possible, as session appointments fill up pretty quickly.

2. Read all of the information listed on the Cady Studious website (linked above) and follow the directions to register with Cady to schedule your photo session (their website lists tons of information, be sure to read it all).
3. The “Simple Session” only costs $30 and will allow you to have your Senior Portrait Yearbook photo taken, includes 1 casual background shot and a cap and gown shot
4. Note: All photo sessions will be held at Cady Studios in Dacula (1700 Winder Highway – 9.5 Miles from Discovery High School)

This year’s Junior/Senior Prom will be held on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 from 7:00-11:00pm at the Fox Theatre
(660 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30308).

Senior students’ grades will be reviewed by the end of day on Monday, May 15, 2023, to determine and verify eligibility for final exam exemption(s). There is an ONLINE FORM being used this year for Senior Students to submit for excused attendance final exam exemptions – no paper form. Parents - please sit with your student to complete the form as it will be accessible via the student's GCPS email account. Attendance form is due Monday by 6:00pm!

Students will be notified via eCLASS and email on Monday, May 15, 2023, of their Senior Exemption status, parents by email on file. 

ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Exemption-eligible students wanting to be excused from the exam period MUST check-in/check-out during the transition period between exams. Students who submit this Senior Final Exam Exemption Attendance Form are expected to:

Promptly leave school during the exempted exam period if checking out. 

Arrive at school and report to their specific exam testing locations if checking in to take an exam or attend a regular class. 

Students who are not eligible to exempt final exams are expected to attend classes and take their final exams as scheduled.

Cap and gown distribution begins tomorrow, Tuesday, May 2nd, during all lunches and ends Friday, May 5th for all students that have paid their dues by April 29 and do not have any outstanding fees (media center, cafeteria, club or organization, etc.) The fee notification has been added to eClass or My Payments Plus. Check your eClass and MPP, and pay all fees before coming to the pick up your cap/gown.

Seniors, cap/gown distribution will resume through Friday, May 5 from  10:30-12:20 ONLY.  If you are dual enrollment, workbased, etc, you will only be able to come in during those times as well. The cap/gowns are packed up before and after distribution and not accessible any other times.

Dues paid after April 29, cap and gowns will be shipped directly to your home with an additional $15 shipping charges added to your order. These will be shipped out in the order they are received.

Seniors! It's that time of year to submit your motivational speech for Discovery's Senior Class of 2023 Graduation Ceremony. If you are interested in being our Student Motivational Speaker, please upload your speech to this Google Form.  Your speech must be submitted by Monday, May 5th at 3pm.  Please follow these requirements:

Discovery High School’s graduation date has been announced. Mark your calendar for Friday, May 26, 2023 at 7:30 pm, Gas South Arena. Each graduating senior will receive 12 tickets for guests.  Any person age two and under who can sit in someone's lap does not need a ticket.  All other guests do need a ticket.  We do not sell extra tickets, so if you need any extras, please ask your friends to see if they're not using theirs.  Tickets will be distributed at graduation practice.
