About the ITC
The International Transition Center (ITC) opened in August 2016 to serve English Language Learners, grades 7-12, who are students with limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE). The middle school's program of study seeks to accelerate the development of English proficiency and math skills to enable students to graduate within four years of entering high school. The high school's program of study seeks to accelerate the development of English proficiency, math skills, and the necessary career skills to enable students to transition to the workforce and/or adult educational opportunities. The International Transition Center (ITC) currently has sites at Berkmar HS, Discovery HS, Meadowcreek HS, and Norcross HS.
With the retirement of Dr. Bob Burgess on November 30, 2018, the International Transition Center welcomed a new principal, Dr. Steve Frandsen. Dr. Frandsen has most recently served as the principal of Annistown Elementary School and is an Adjunct Professor for Piedmont College.
Dr. Frandsen has 20 years' experience in GCPS as a teacher, assistant principal and principal. He completed his student teaching in Mexico prior to teaching high school Spanish and ESOL at South Gwinnett HS. He has 9 years administrative experience in the Meadowcreek Cluster as an assistant principal at Lilburn MS, Nesbit ES and Ferguson ES. For the past 6 years Dr. Frandsen has worked with GCPS in researching, planning and implementing the Dual Language Immersion program at Annistown ES.
Dr. Frandsen has a unique set of skills and experiences in language acquisition that will benefit the International Transition Center. We are excited about working with Dr. Frandsen as he continues the great work of Dr. Burgess.
