Mrs. Lakisha Charles

Hi there! My name is Lakisha Charles, and I am so excited to join the Minor Elementary family as the school counselor for kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grades. I graduated from the Unsinkable Albany State University with my bachelor’s degree in psychology and received my masters in school counseling from Capella University. Prior to school counseling I have worked with children on the Autism spectrum providing behavioral therapy, interventions, and support in a clinic setting.  I have a passion for helping children adjust and adapt to new environments, explore social skills, regulate emotions, and reach their full potential.  Empathy, compassion, critical thinking, and guidance are just a few of the tools we use to help each student reach their individual goals.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, listening to music, and binge watching my favorite shows and movies.  I also love to try new foods and travel with friends and family.  Ms. Crofton and I look forward to working with students and parents this year to best meet your needs.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Ms. Elizabeth Crofton

Hello, Minor Elementary School community!  My name is Elizabeth Crofton, and I am thrilled to join the Minor team as a full-time school counselor.  Mrs. Charles and I are excited to work together to serve ALL students, families, and staff that call Minor ES home.

I have school counseling experience in Gwinnett and Dekalb counties, at a public charter school in Fulton County, and at an independent Quaker school.  I can honestly say that Gwinnett schools are the best!  I have Masters' Degrees in Education (UGA) and School Counseling (GSU), and a BA in Journalism (UGA).  I'm currently working on my ESOL Endorsement.  I am truly a lifelong learner with a lot of curiosity about the people and world around me.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Dr. James Comer, a leading child psychiatrist: "No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship."  Connections are so important!  Along with high-quality instruction, positive student-adult relationships are the key to success at Minor Elementary.  Families play a major role in this equation, and as a counseling department we strive to foster positive connections among students, their families, and school personnel.  We are here to help remove barriers to student success.

Please don't hesitate to call or email at any time.  We look forward to working with you to make this school year a very special one for our students!
