  • Where do parents park at the school?

    The main parking lots are located at Parsons Elementary and Peachtree Ridge High School.

  • What is the Readers Rally competition day itinerary?

    • 7:00 AM - Breakfast begins for adult volunteers
    • 7:30 AM - Adult volunteer training and student volunteer check-in
    • 8:00 AM - Elementary coaches check-in
    • 8:30 AM - Elementary opening ceremony begins
    • 9:00 AM - Elementary Play begins
    • Closing ceremony

  • When and where is the closing ceremony?

    Elementary closing ceremonies are in the main gym. Since the time for the closing ceremony is dependent on the length and number of rounds per level, it is difficult to determine when the competetion will end, but usually the rally closing ceremony is over by 12:00 PM.

  • Do parents need to stay for the entire event?

    Parents are encouraged to attend Readers Rally with their child and watch the exciting competition. Parents who choose not to stay should return no later than 11:00 AM to be ready to transport their student home. GCPS teachers and staff cannot transport students.

  • What is the parent’s responsibility at the event?

    Depending on space, parents may watch the competition in the classrooms, but they are not allowed to talk to the team or the volunteers during the rounds. Everyone except the participants, the volunteer moderator, and scorekeeper are to remain quiet during round play.

  • Are younger siblings allowed to attend the competition?

    Due to limited space, younger siblings may need to wait with parents in the commons area during the competition. It is recommended to make other arrangements for younger children or to bring a quiet activity to help keep them occupied.  It is also recommended that strollers be parked in the hallways outside of the competition rooms.

  • Will the school cafeteria be open for students to buy lunch?

    No. Students will be given a snack and drink during the competition. A concession stand will be open in the commons area.

  • Are parents allowed to bring a cooler for the team drinks?

    No. Due to limited space, coolers are not an option. Students will be given a snack and drink during the competition.
