  • What is the the Purpose of Gateway Test?

The Gwinnett County Board of Education implemented the High School Gateway Assessment as part of the school system’s mission to “pursue excellence in academic knowledge, skills, and behavior for each student resulting in measured improvement against local, national, and world class standards.”

The format of this test is ESSAY.  The Gateway Assessment measures students' ability to write effectively about 9th and 10th grade Science (Biology and Chemistry) and Social Studies (World History).

All students must demonstrate knowledge of the Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.  All students must pass the Gwinnett County High School Gateway Assessment before earning a diploma.

Students will have several opportunities (Gateway Retest) through out the school year to retake the assessment if they are not successful the first time.
