Grading Categories

  • Couch Middle School follows GCPS Board Procedure regarding grading categories for all classes. At the middle school level, a variety of courses are offered. Most of these courses (all 6th and 7th grade, as well as all Connections classes) will be "Traditional Middle School Classes." At the eighth grade level, however, high school credit earning courses (Math and Science) are offered to some students and will use the appropriate categories as shown below:

     

    Traditional Middle School Classes

     

    • 35% Classroom Assessments (may include but not limited to: quizzes, daily work, labs, etc.)
    • 5% Homework
    • 48% Summative Assessments (may include but not limited to: teacher generated unit tests, major assignments, research papers, etc.)
    • 10% Comprehensive Final Exam** (teacher generated assessment or required district assessments provided by the Assessment Office)
    • 2% *Interim Assessments (required district assessments provided by the Assessment Office)

    **If there are no required district generated assessments, then the Comprehensive Final Exams will be a common assessment developed at the local school by teachers who teach the same subject and grade level.

     

    Carnegie Unit Credit Courses with a Georgia Milestone End Of Course (EOC) assessment

     

    • 30% Classroom Assessments (may include but not limited to: quizzes, daily work, labs, etc.)
    • 5% Homework
    • 43% Summative Assessments (may include but not limited to: teacher generated unit tests, major assignments, research papers, etc.)
    • 20% Comprehensive Final Exam – Required End of Course (EOC) Assessment
    • 2% *Interim Assessments (required district assessments provided by the Assessment Office)

     

    Carnegie Unit Credit Courses without a state End Of Course (EOC) assessment

     

    • 30% Classroom Assessments (may include but not limited to: quizzes, daily work, labs, etc.)
    • 5% Homework should count no more than 5% of the total grade)
    • 43% Summative Assessments (may include but not limited to: teacher generated unit tests, major assignments, research papers, etc.)
    • 20% Comprehensive Final Exam** – Required District Final Exam
    • 2% *Interim Assessments (required district assessments provided by the Assessment Office)

    *For courses that do not require an Interim Assessment, the Summative Assessments category will equal 45%.

    **If there are no required district assessments, then the Comprehensive Final Exams will be a common assessment developed at the local school by teachers who teach the same subject and grade level.
