Middle Grades Counseling

  • School counselors lead a comprehensive counseling program to students in 6th-8th grades by providing individual advisement and counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance on topics that encourage academic, social-emotional, and career development. They also provide consultation to teachers and parents.

Our 6th-8th grade counselors teach classroom guidance lessons on numerous topics. Below are some of these lesson titles. How to be Successful at GOC, Soft Skills for Life, Career Exploration, Planning for High School and Beyond, Title IX, Child and Teen Lures, Life Lessons/Suicide Prevention (7th Grade), Social Media Dangers, Random Acts of Kindness, How to Manage Anxiety, Peer Relations and Communication, and Classroom Meetings.

Pursuant to GA law [OCGA 19-7-5)(1)] school counselors are mandated reporters. If they suspect child abuse or neglect, they are mandated to contact the GA Department of Child Protective Services.
