Masks and Cloth Face Coverings

  • Masks/cloth face coverings are meant to protect other people in case the wearer is unknowingly infected but does not have symptoms yet. Mask and other face coverings are a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when we talk, cough, or sneeze.

Wearing cloth face coverings or a mask is required for students, staff, and visitors to GCPS facilities. Masks should cover both the nose and mouth and secure under the chin. They should also fit securely against both sides of the face. Face shields may be worn in addition to masks, but not in place of masks. Accommodations will be made for students and employees unable to wear a mask for documented reasons, for instance, a pulmonary condition such as asthma or sensory issues.

Students may remove their masks during meals. Additionally, masks may be removed when students are outside and social distancing can be achieved. Students in band and PE will have times during the day in which they will not wear masks (i.e. cardio exercises, etc.).
