Summer School

  • Elementary School

    Summer School for all students in grades 3-5 is designed for students with core academic needs who have not mastered the AKS. Students not meeting promotion requirements are eligible for summer school.

    K-5 LEP students may be provided an opportunity to attend summer school for language enrichment activities as defined by the student’s English Learner Proficiency Plan.

    K-5 Special Education students may be provided an opportunity to attend summer school as defined by the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

    Transportation is not provided for Summer School (unless otherwise noted in an IEP).

    Middle School

    Special Education students may be provided an opportunity to attend summer school as defined by the student’s Individualized Education Plan.

    High School

    Gwinnett County Public Schools’ High School Summer School is a fee-based program that is designed for students with academic needs. It allows students to take courses to get ahead or to make-up a class previously failed in order to gain credits towards graduation. Courses are open to high school students, including selected courses for rising 9th graders. Transportation is not provided (unless otherwise noted in an IEP).

    LEP students may be provided with a (non-fee/fee-free) summer school opportunity for language enrichment, remediation and/or acceleration as recommended by their ESOL teacher or as approved by the International Newcomer Center.

    Special Education students may be provided an opportunity to attend summer school as defined by the student’s Individualized Education Plan.

    Limited English Proficient (LEP) is defined as those students who are eligible for language assistance services (English to Speakers of Other Languages [ESOL]).
