The Principal's Message
-
It is an honor to serve the Sycamore family as Principal for the 22-23 school year. Sycamore Elementary is a school rooted in community and family. Many of our staff members have served at Sycamore for many years. Many of our current students are children of Sycamore staff.
At Sycamore Elementary, our mission is to achieve our personal best in our school, community and world by setting goals, doing our job, and making every minute count. This year our staff theme is “#TEAMSES!” We believe in coming together as a community to support students’ academic and social well-being. We will focus on five critical areas as we strive to help each and every student reach their full potential.
-
Cultural Competence - We plan on celebrating the cultural diversity and uniqueness of our student body through multicultural events and increasing multilingual resources. We will build staff capacity around cultural awareness through a variety of professional development opportunities.
-
Multi-Tiered System of Supports - We’re adding an enrichment and remedial block to the master schedule, relaunching the Half Hour Heroes Mentor Program, adding an MTSS Coordinator, increasing the number of Early Intervention teachers, and growing our resources to support more students.
-
Opportunity and Access - We’re continuing a weekly early learning program called Play 2 Learn for children ages 0-5, increasing the number of Gifted certified teachers, permitting students in grades 3-5 to take Chromebooks home nightly, and emphasizing learning through play during kindergarten morning work.
-
Talent Management - We will focus on teacher development and teacher retention this school year, including supporting new teachers through our Teacher Induction Program. Teachers will be involved in ongoing professional development. They will have the opportunity to observe their peers. All teachers will be supported by instructional coaches. Student teachers will be welcomed to work and learn alongside our veteran staff.
-
World-class communications and engagement- We are prioritizing establishing an active, viable PTA. We will host several parent workshops during the school year. We will utilize our monthly school newsletter as well as social media to communicate school happenings with stakeholders.
As principal of Sycamore Elementary, I’m excited to help students LEARN what it takes to be productive and successful members of society, LEAD others with compassion and empathy, and SUCCEED in whatever future endeavors they choose to pursue.
Thank you for choosing Sycamore Elementary. We are proud to be a part of the Lanier Cluster and Sugar Hill, Georgia!
Sincerely,
Kelly Scarborough
