Meet the Director:
Karyn Lewis is currently the choral director at Pinckneyville Middle School in Peachtree Corners, Ga. Ms. Lewis began teaching at Pinckneyville in January 2021 after graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in December of 2020. Pinckneyville Middle School Chorus welcomes and encourages all students to join and sing regardless of previous experience or ability level. No audition is required! Currently, choral ensembles are split by grade level and offered on both A and B days. Choral ensemble members are also invited to participate or audition for additional performance opportunities and events such as District Honor Chorus, Allstate Chorus, 6th Grade Statewide Honor Chorus, Southern Star Music Festival, and Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE).
Ms. Lewis currently holds a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia. During her time at UGA, Ms. Lewis was an active member of choral activities and participated in Women’s Glee Club, Repertory Singers, UGA Hodgson Singers, and UGA Choral Project. Ms. Lewis also worked as an intern with the Georgia Children’s Chorus from 2018-2020.
In addition to her duties as choral director, Ms. Lewis is currently working on her master’s degree in Music Education at Georgia State University. Ms. Lewis was awarded the Johnny Mercer Foundation Scholarship for her grad school studies and is fully funded as a Mercer Scholar at Georgia State University. Ms Lewis will graduate with her master’s degree in May of 2024.
Ms. Lewis is an active member of the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).
Ms. Lewis currently lives in Atlanta, Ga with her two cats, Jasper and Opal. Ms. Lewis loves teaching chorus at Pinckneyville Middle School and looks forward to making music with you!
- 6th Grade Chorus - 6th grade choral members will be assigned a vocal part (soprano or alto) during the first week of rehearsals. 6th grade students perform two concerts a year and have opportunities for additional performances and potential solos.
- 7th Grade Chorus - 7th grade choral members will be assigned a vocal part (soprano, alto, or baritone) within the first week of rehearsals. 7th grade students perform in two chorus concerts as well as additional events such as POPS concert, Hispanic Heritage Celebration Night, and Large Group Performance Evaluation. Additional performance opportunities and potential solos are also available for 7th grade chorus students. Extra rehearsals may be scheduled prior to performances and all students will be expected to attend.
- 8th Grade Chorus - 8th grade choral members will be assigned a vocal part (soprano, alto, or baritone) within the first week of rehearsals. 8th grade students perform in two chorus concerts as well as additional events such as POPS concert, Hispanic Heritage Celebration Night, Southern Star Music Festival, and Large Group Performance Evaluation.
