Literacy Coach

I am very passionate about working along side teachers to support their understanding of literacy teaching and learning! I love supporting students in becoming the best readers and writers they can be! This is my 10th year teaching and I am so thankful to get to support students and teachers daily. I completed my Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction during the 2019-2020 school year. I was given an amazing opportunity to train as a Successful Start Facilitator last school year to support primary grade classroom teachers and instructional support! I spend my time outside of school enjoying nature with my husband and dog Lilly. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends!

Local School Technology Coordinator (LSTC)

This year will be year eight in education for me, and I have had the privilege of all of those years to be here at Nesbit. I was a fifth grade teacher before becoming the Technology Coordinator for the school. I am an advocate to see technology integrated into the school day for all grade levels and all students. I graduated from Georgia Gwinnett College in 2014 with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and in 2018 graduated with a M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from the University of West Georgia. My favorite subject is Math, but Science is a very close second.

When I was in elementary school, Officer Friendly would always visit my school. One of his favorite questions every year was, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" My response was always the same, "teacher", because they make the greatest difference in the world. If you are good at it, everyone remembers you. In 2000, I graduated from Mississippi State University, and the journey began. It is one that I wouldn't change for anything.

Mrs. Birdie Jones

RTI/SST Cooridnator

I have had the opportunity to served as a fourth grade teacher for one year and as the RTI/SST Coordinator for the past 3 years at Nesbit Elementary School in the Meadowcreek Cluster. It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with the students and staff at NES. In my 24 years as an Educator, I have been a classroom teacher, a Math Specialist, and an EIP Math/Reading teacher, and presently the RTI/SST Coordinator. I received my Bachelor’s in early childhood from Brewton-Parker College, Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan, Specialist in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University, and my Doctorate in Educational Leadership (ABD) from Argosy University.

Teaching has allowed me to deliver knowledge to students, which gives impact on the next generation. Teaching has allowed me to work on the minds and hearts of my students, guiding them to become empowered, engaged, literate and creative human beings who will one day, hopefully, join in the force to help change the world.

My favorite subject is reading. My favorite children’s book is Miss Brooks Loves Books (and I don’t) by Barbara Bottner and illustrated Michael Emberley. I enjoy traveling, going to the mall, and spending time with my family. I am married with 5 children.

I enjoy working with ESOL students! I have taught in Gwinnett County for 19 years. Before moving to GA, I have taught in the state of CO, AZ, and TX. Over the course of my teaching career, I have earned 2 master's degrees (Art Ed. & Sped) as well as a Specialist Degree (Curriculum & Instruction). As an ESOL student myself since age 23, I believe all 4 domains of language (reading, writing, speaking, listening) are equally important in all subject areas in teaching & learning. I support Instructional Conversation.
I live with my beautiful kitties and enjoy gardening and looking at the nature. I also participate in competitive partner dancing when I can. I remind myself little things and little moments aren't little. And it's not the happiness that makes people grateful...but it's the gratitude that makes us happy.

I am Nesbit’s Media Specialist. I am new to the area and really feel like I have found new “home” here at Nesbit. I have been in education for eleven years. After graduating from Georgia Southern University, I went back to my hometown, Fairfax County, to teach 3rd grade. Missing the warm Georgia climate, I established myself with college friends in Columbus, GA for the past 8 years. Learning is always fun for me! I enjoy seeing student’s eyes light up when they discovery new things! Reading books is a great way to learn new facts, or go on a fun adventure.

Hello there...Mrs. Small here! I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Studies from Bethune-Cookman University (then Bethune-Cookman College) in Daytona Beach, FL in 2007. In 2012, I earned a Master of Science degree in Education with a specialization in Reading and Literacy. I moved to Georgia in June of 2015. My teaching career started in Florida in 2007, where I am originally from. It's no surprise that my favorite subject in school was reading and my favorite hobby is (you guessed it) READING!
