Thank you for your interest in Gwinnett County Public Schools and participation in the 2025 Area Board and Town Hall Meetings. Questions targeting employees have been included, but identifying names and titles have been removed.
We have done our best to answer all questions received. If your question was not addressed or you would like to clarify it, please email myschoolboard@gcpsk12.org for further assistance.
- Where are we with Career Readiness programing/curriculum?
- Is this a teacher town hall? I don't hear 1 parent takeaway or way to help. Parents just listened to unhappy teachers. Won't recommend these to parents
- When will the district start to compensate assistant principals for attending summer leadership? Everyone that’s attending is being compensated except APs.
- Is the district concerned that the EL Education curriculum may not be adequately meeting the needs of students who are reading and writing below grade level?
- When will the district take more action on AI usage? Teachers need support, and students often cheat, which undermines critical thinking.
- Any thoughts about a 4-day week?
- Is there a chance the district will move to a hybrid model? The pandemic showed that the seven-hour day is obsolete. How is the district adapting?
- Seckinger is in its 3rd year as a program and we don't have an option for a host park or field. What is the plan for acquiring one for our students and families?
- Will the district consider paying teachers biweekly? The district is holding interest funds to purchase property for future development.
- What feedback did you receive from the last family survey about education effectiveness?
- How can teachers and the board collaborate to develop a holistic approach that values both graduation rates and genuine mastery of key AKS areas?
- DAs carry huge curves because it is so hard for teachers to prep kids for them. When assessments have to be converted that much, what’s the point?
- There is a disconnect between Assessment and Curriculum Offices. This disconnect is the reason for the loss of the value of DAs. How can we address this?
- The district Curriculum and Assessment Offices are disconnected which is the reason for the loss of value of DAs. What can the district do about this disconnect?
- We are receiving more SLIFE students and can't bus them to ITCs, yet we must help them still graduate in four years. How can we make this more equitable?
- What’s the point of having DAs at all? More testing that we don’t need. Let teachers create their own midterms/finals if you trust the teachers in buildings.
- When will teachers get more of a say in the decisions made within the county? Where are the teacher surveys for required programs and for their administrators?
- When will schools be rezoned? For example, Duncan Creek is over enrollment with 20 plus trailers while nearby Puckett's Mill has empty classrooms.
- Is there discussion of redistricting for overcrowded schools in the Mill Creek cluster, given one school's enrollment exceeds the other two combined?
- The capital plans have class additions to help overcrowding schools. How will you prioritize the schools? Will the updates be permanent or just more containers?
- Considering the recent and ongoing news about student athletes, will Gwinnett County be among the first to improve athletic programs for their development?
- Our middle schools don’t have GCPS equipped labs for the required science activities neither the equipment to use for those GCPS assigned lessons.
- I want to know who had the genius idea to have graduation on Sunday - the day before Memorial Day.
- Why are some graduations scheduled over the holiday weekend? Wouldn’t it be better for morale to have these the weekend prior to the holiday?
- Accountability & Assessment should be first when looking at efficiency - utilize state resources and then no need for DAs or Gwinnett Writes.
- How do we justify the large funds spent in our testing dept used for assessments such as Gwinnett Writes and DAs- the state offers similar assessments?
- What is the plan to address the expectation for teachers to work beyond their contract hours? How can we also include planning time for teachers?
- What’s the percentage per person at the local schools vs the central office in regard to the 88% and 12%?
- One to one has diminished classroom engagement, interaction, and instruction.
- Does the board have conversations about trusting the teachers they hire to do their job- stop micromanaging? Address the issues not the masses.
- Since this “elected” board gets paid in their positions, why aren’t they foregoing their paychecks for the good of Gwinnett’s students, teachers, and staff?
- We spend a lot of time developing, curating, and recreating standards. Why can’t we just use state standards for content areas vs. creating our own AKS?
- When will redistricting be considered across the county?
- What adjustments will made to teacher salaries to compete with Metro Atlanta school salaries?
- What kind of oversight do you have to make sure the leaders you hire are doing what is right for staff and students? Where is the teacher input?

- Elementary DAs- 10+ , I Ready- 6 a year, Milestones 5 days, plus formatives and summative. When is it enough data? Our kids and teachers are stressed.
- Why is it that retired paraprofessionals cannot substitute for another paraprofessional when it's so hard to get coverage for those positions?
- The curriculum office needs a revamp. Over the last 2 years the support is worse for us teachers, resources are worse, and so much drama. Why isn't this fixed?
- How is the district addressing the exclusion of parents from their children's education as true partners in the name of safety and security?
- Cybersecurity concerns are increasing, especially in the K-12 market, with daily compromises of student accounts. What is Gwinnett's strategy to protect PII?
- Can instructional resources be aligned k-8 so that district support can be spread k-8?
- Teachers need autonomy in their teaching.. GCPS required lessons are not aligned to the level of our students nor to the reality of the days in our courses.
- Are we installing metal detectors at the high schools, and will they be located only at the front door? What about the other doors that students use frequently? How do we prevent guns from entering through other doors if only at the front?
- What data supports the need for PBIS implementation in our high schools, such as discipline referrals or attendance rates?
- Prior to QBE, funding was based on student attendance. Has the current Board received training on QBE and the Strategic Waivers as it promotes innovation?
- Will we receive any money from the state to specifically support safety and security? This might help offset some of our budget funding.
- Is it true that GCPS has overspent its instructional materials budget?
- Can you create a way for teachers to have a voice anonymously without the fear of retaliation? We are in the trenches and have the least amount of say.
- Can you explain what it means to "condense what we do"?
- When will Gwinnett prioritize teacher planning time (not just CLTs) and duty free lunch for all teachers? This will help retain teachers.
- Is it possible to provide teachers with a duty-free lunch and/or extend lunch time?
- Going back to the 4 day model. Why is it an option for Paul Duke HS but no one else?
