Q&A District III Area Board and Town Hall Meeting
Thank you for your interest in Gwinnett County Public Schools and participation in the 2025 Area Board and Town Hall Meetings. As shared during the meeting, all questions are being addressed either live or with responses posted on the district website. The question submission tool used during the event is interactive and allows participants to “upvote” questions that resonate with them. Questions containing profanity were not accepted. Questions targeting employees have been included, but identifying names and titles have been removed.
We have done our best to answer all questions received. If your question was not addressed or you would like to clarify it, please email myschoolboard@gcpsk12.org for further assistance.
- How much would the district save by not filling vacant positions at the ISC? Could those savings help offset budget increases?
- What are we doing about school safety and controlling entrances at schools during class changes? How much would a fence around the school cost?
- How does the property tax break work for GCPS employees?
- Wouldn't it be fairer to tier the retention bonus based on years in GCPS? More years, more bonus? Was that option considered?
- What’s the rationale for the large gap between $2,000 and $500 bonuses? It risks devaluing experienced staff—wouldn’t a flat $1,000 be more fair to all?
- What’s our contingency plan if we face unexpected challenges in the next 12 months?
- Your budget for fiscal year 2021 was $1.9 billion dollars. The projected budget is now 3.6 billion with the same students. Please justify this with specifics.
- Why are high schools paid to sponsor clubs, but elementary schools are not?

- Does the board truly know how bad the teacher hiring crisis is? What are we doing to be more innovative as a district to attract the next generation?
- Why can’t staff work from home on Digital learning days? It would give us a little more flexibility. We can do all meetings online. Why force us in the building?

- Why conduct an expensive nationwide search for a super when our current interim is a career GCPS educator/employee?
- If the community feedback gathered through the Super search is overwhelmingly supportive of Al Taylor becoming permanent Super would he be considered?
- Well, Mr. Gasper, since you would be a board member “for the love of the kids”, why not forgo the stipend and pay your own way?
- What leadership qualities are the Board looking for in the next superintendent that did not exist with Mr. Wilbanks and Dr. Watts?
