Q&A District V Area Board and Town Hall Meeting
Thank you for your interest in Gwinnett County Public Schools and participation in the 2025 Area Board and Town Hall Meetings. As shared during the meeting, all questions are being addressed either live or with responses posted on the district website. The question submission tool used during the event is interactive and allows participants to “upvote” questions that resonate with them. Questions containing profanity were not accepted. Questions targeting employees have been included, but identifying names and titles have been removed.

- Can you speak more about the proposed literacy specialist at schools?
- CCRPI is Georgia’s official college and career readiness metric. Why hasn’t improving every school’s CCRPI to 75+ been made a districtwide priority?
- How do we justify graduating students from a district with a 29/100 average CCRPI when that number predicts poor college and career outcomes?
- What does technology education look like for elementary students moving forward? They are expected to access learning from home on Digital Learning Days.
- Why are you accepting some questions on race and not others?
- Will GSMST ever get its own buses? Currently, my child rides four buses each day (2 in AM and 2 in PM) and it makes athletics hard at our home school w/ timing.
- Has the board considered implementing a four-day work week?
- What’s the rationale for the large gap between $2,000 and $500 bonuses? It risks devaluing experienced staff—wouldn’t a flat $1,000 be more fair to all?
- I would like to address the issue of bullying at Meadowcreek High School, as I have witnessed significant bullying during my four years here.
- Is there a plan to again send CSTs to high schools to pressure teachers to pass seniors who haven’t learned the material to artificially boost graduation rates?
- Will GSMST ever get an auditorium for their amazing music program students to use for concerts and for other school events? Most high schools have auditoriums.
- Would the board consider increasing pay for teachers at Title 1 schools with a track record of high student growth to retain these quality teachers?
- Dr. Morgan, how confident are you in hiring a strong Superintendent, given you've been part of removing two successful ones in just a few years?
- Can our Board expedite the hiring process for Al Taylor to save the district money, inefficiency, and stress from another superintendent transition? If “the community” feedback suggests that Al Taylor should be Superintendent, how will the Board respond?
- Please appoint Dr. Al Taylor, he’s a GCPS lifer, listens to the needs of Principals, and he has provided stability and continuity to the district. Could you please share the board's look-fors for the next superintendent? [Open for Full Question]
- Can we appoint a new superintendent prior to the beginning of school. Similar to other Districts. Dr. Taylor has done a great job and should be appointed.
- Dr. Taylor would be an amazing leader for GCPS!
- Dr. Taylor will you please put your hat in the ring for superintendent? It’d be great to have another GCPS leader instead of an outsider who doesn’t know GCPS
- Is there a plan for board members to personally repay the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on firing two superintendents so it doesn’t hurt students?
- What steps is the board taking to address the discrepancy between graduation rates and actual student learning, and to support teachers in prioritizing mastery?
- I have a principal who is absent from the building nearly every day. He claims to be at community meetings, but no one is there to help. How do we report this?
- Why aren’t we prioritizing ai and science in this part of the district? My elementary school student currently has less than 20 minutes a day to learn science.
- How is GCPS navigating all the manic federal changes in funding and civil rights laws to keep the focus on serving all students, no matter how they identify?
- Why do we have to share E-SPLOST with Buford City schools and what percentage does Buford City schools get?
- There is a significant lack of diversity among GCPS top leadership. What plans are in place to include all groups, not just one?
- What literacy resources (i.e. programs, staff, materials) will be implemented at the elementary, middle, and high school level for the upcoming school years?
- Why does GCPS keep signing waivers to allow our classrooms to overflow with students? This is not conducive to effective teaching or meaningful learning.
- When will the rest of the district get an ai class?
- Why aren’t we prioritizing ai and science in this part of the district? My elementary school student currently has less than 20 minutes a day to learn science.
- We are no longer teaching students to think critically. We need more math, science, and ai.
- Instructional conversation is a temporary solution for ELs. What other research-based practices support these students?

- Dr. Tarece, you're never satisfied with our improvements in GCPS. What is acceptable progress to you? We'll never be 100% in everything.
- Dr. Tarece your behavior in work sessions and business meetings continues to be combative and is damaging the reputation of GCPS. How is this helpful?

- Dr. Morgan, why haven’t you done more to help majority-minority GSMST students access top colleges, despite it being one of the nation’s top high schools?
- What efforts have you led to connect GCPS minority students in your district with elite universities and national scholarships beyond HOPE/Zell Miller?
- Can we consider an early learning center/day care for staff members infants and toddlers?
- Student achievement is impaired by the lack of serious attendance and device policies. Will the board and other leaders address this?
- After the superintendent search firm is selected, does GCPS hand over full decisional authority or will the district remain involved in the process?
- Dr. Johnson-Morgan what specific problems have you identified with multi-language learners and what KPIs are you tracking for progress?
- When with middle and high schools get weapons detectors? Will staff also be required to go through them?
- I'm a retired teacher of ELs. How are those students being served now at different grade levels and levels of English acquisition? How do we avoid over-testing?

- We have enough instructional materials. Make sure you ask for teachers input before making county-wide instructional material purchases.

- My son is in 4th grade and he has an average of 3-4 tests every week. He is stressed and has lost his love of school. Will this emphasis on tests ever change??
- What data does the board use to evaluate student learning beyond graduation rates, and what interventions ensure mastery of the AKS?
- Shouldn’t principals who serve in majority Hispanic schools learn the language? Wouldn’t that be a way to get buy in with the community they serve?
- Our schools faces challenges such as attendance and vaping. What resources can we use to better the situation? Mentors and campus monitor should be used!
- What is getting in the way of GCPS PreK expansion?
- What steps are being taken to recruit and retain culturally diverse teachers?
- When will the rest of the district get an ai class?
- Is there a possibility for improvement in our dental insurance coverage?
- How will the board and superintendent prioritize restorative justice and counselors, given Black students are nearly 3 times more likely to be expelled?
- Where is the district in terms of pre-school classes, especially in the Meadowcreek Cluster?
- Will the school board be filing a comprehensive financial audit with a new firm to ensure follow-thru with aforementioned facility planning?
- Has GCPS considered tiering the retention bonus by years of service? It seems fairer to reward longer-term employees more.
- Dr. Tarece, if a principal made such poor hiring choices as you they would be fired. How can you hold other accountable when you can't succeed at the same tasks.
- Considering wages, can paraprofessional wages be re-addressed to be at a livable wage?
- How is the board ensuring the new superintendent will prioritize fiscal transparency and discipline policy reform?
- Some of our schools do stem, others do not. This is creating a have/have not culture. Then the district stopped permissive transfers so students can’t transfer.
- Executive leadership is top heavy and divisions are siloed at the ISC. Is the organizational structure being evaluated?
- Should individuals who lead private schools that receive public funds through vouchers be allowed to serve on the BOE and vote on matters like school choice? [Open for Full Question]

- Is there anything being done to upgrade buildings that are not ADA compliant?
- Why is GSMST getting a 4th floor build-out when they have lowest enrollment.
- Can McClure be considered for a second elevator since we only have one for 4 floors and it has been broken for several weeks?
- Dr. Tarece, since your tenure began in 2021, what measurable improvements have occurred in CCRPI, EL exit rates, or postsecondary outcomes in your district?
- Will McClure get their own bus with some of the Esplost funds?
- Is there anything being done to upgrade buildings that are not ADA compliant?
- What percentage of Shiloh graduates need remedial coursework upon entering college or technical school?
