A Message from Interim Superintendent Dr. Al Taylor
Dear Gwinnett County Public Schools, Students, Families, and Staff,
With much enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility, I step into the role of Interim Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS). At such a pivotal time in our district, the Board of Education and I are ready to take the first of many steps forward with you— our brilliant students, our capable faculty and staff, supportive families, and engaged community members.
I am proud to represent Gwinnett County Public Schools. My entire educational career has been devoted to this district. Starting as a teacher and progressing through roles as an assistant principal, principal, Assistant Superintendent of Middle Schools, and most recently, Chief of Schools, I have worked to keep our school buildings safe and secure for our students. My investment of more than 20 years in GCPS has been both intentional and rewarding. Through every challenge, obstacle, and transition, this district continues to thrive on excellence, innovation, and resilience.
In this transition plan, you will learn more about our key strategies designed to set us up for success, including: (1) Engaging stakeholders and building trust; (2) Increasing community and family engagement; (3) Enhancing student and staff safety and well-being; (4) Accelerating academic achievement and (5) Strengthening financial and operational efficiency.
During this period, we will work to stabilize the district and foster stronger trust, beginning with listening to you, our stakeholders. In the coming weeks, our team, along with the Board of Education, will introduce various ways to connect, share, and collaborate through school visits, community forums, and intimate conversations. Our goal is to ensure that all voices are heard. Actively listening to your concerns and successes in the district will help us refine our academic and operational strategies for greater outcomes.
I am eager to partner with each of you to elevate our district to even greater heights. As we embark on this journey together, let us prepare to achieve the goals set for the advancement of our children and community.
Committed to excellence, together,
Dr. Al Taylor
