May 2025 Transition Update

Moving Forward Together: A Transition Plan for Stability and Growth

Dear Gwinnett County Public Schools, Students, Families, and Staff,

As we reach the end of the school year this week, I want to take a moment to share my appreciation and pride in the work happening across our district, particularly these last six weeks. Despite being in a period of leadership transition, our focus has remained right where it belongs—on our students.

Your commitment to teaching, learning, and supporting each and every student is evident. From the classroom to the cafeteria, from the front office to the bus lanes—you continue to show up, lead with purpose, and finish this school year strong. I am truly proud to serve alongside you.

To the Class of 2025 and their families—congratulations! This is a time of celebration, reflection, and pride. We are incredibly proud of our graduating seniors and can’t wait to see the positive impact you will make in the world.

I also want to extend my gratitude to our Gwinnett County Board of Education for their engagement in our Area Board and Town Hall Meetings, their work to pass our FY26 Budget, and their continued thoughtful approach to the superintendent search. Their ongoing collaboration and commitment to engagement as our board, including their work to select our next leader, reflects their dedication to the success of all GCPS students and staff.

As part of our promise to keep you informed, we’ve updated the Transition Plan. Each action item now includes a brief status update to reflect our progress. While the updates are concise, they demonstrate how much has been accomplished and what remains ahead as we prepare for summer learning opportunities and the 2025–26 school year.

You can view the updated plan here. Thank you for your continued trust, resilience, and commitment to our students, schools, and community. I hope you get some rest and relaxation this summer.

Committed to excellence, together,

Dr. Al Taylor
Interim Superintendent
Gwinnett County Public Schools
