August 2025 Transition Update

Moving Forward Together: A Transition Plan for Stability and Growth

Dear Gwinnett County Public Schools, Students, Families, and Staff,

Gwinnett County Public Schools is moving forward with purpose, determination, and a shared vision for excellence. Over the past several months, the Moving Forward Together Transition Plan has guided our district’s work through this leadership transition: we have listened to our community, evaluated our systems, and taken decisive action to improve outcomes for every student. This work is not about quick fixes—it is about building a foundation for sustained success and preparing GCPS for the years ahead.

Phase I gave us measurable wins: stronger stakeholder engagement, targeted academic strategies, enhanced safety measures, and improved operational efficiency and stability. These achievements were not endpoints—they were launchpads. We now enter Phase II with clear priorities, bold goals, and a commitment to turn progress into lasting impact. This August 2025 Transition Plan update provides:

1.  A summary report on the five key priorities in Phase I.

2.  Objectives for Phase II build on the progress of Phase I, focusing on sustaining stability, strengthening trust, and advancing academic and operational strategies for even greater results. For each objective, we have defined clear actions that will move forward this school year.

3.  Long-term recommendations the Gwinnett County Board of Education can consider as they move forward with the selection of a new superintendent.

From deepening our focus on teaching and learning, to ensuring stability in our operations, to strengthening communication and supporting the Board of Education in its superintendent search, our direction is clear. Every action we take will be measured, transparent, and aligned to our mission of ensuring every student thrives.

In the months ahead, my focus as Interim Superintendent will remain clear and steady. The Transition Plan will continue to guide our work through this period of change, and the Phase II objectives make clear our immediate priorities while laying the foundation for long-term success.

As I shared before, I am proud to represent Gwinnett County Public Schools. Together, we will keep moving forward—ensuring GCPS remains a place where every student thrives, every educator and staff member is supported, and all voices are heard.

Committed to excellence, together,

Dr. Al Taylor

Interim Superintendent
