Retiree Returning to Work
The Gwinnett County School District permits employment of retirees to fill positions as needed. Retirees from the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) of Georgia and Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) of Georgia are eligible. Gwinnett County Public Schools procedures for employment of TRS and PSERS retirees returning to work are more restrictive than those required by those state retirement systems. Please read GCPS Guidelines for Employing Retirees for details on requirements and restrictions.
If you need assistance, please contact the Gwinnett Retirement Services Department at 678-301-6272.

All retirees (except substitute classroom teachers) must work a regular monthly schedule and be paid a regular salary on the GCPS retiree monthly payroll.
If you return to work in a SHBP benefits eligible position, the state retirement system will cease taking your SHBP deductions from your state annuity and deductions must be made through your employer. Once you leave active work status, you must notify SHBP immediately to resume deductions from your state annuity. Coverage will not automatically rollover and will cause you to lose eligibility for SHBP coverage. If you have questions, please contact Josh Cofield with Gwinnett Retirement Services at 678-301-6272.
