Internal Audit Department

Mission: The mission of the Internal Audit Department is to provide Gwinnett County Public Schools with an independent, objective, and comprehensive auditing program. 

Scope: The department utilizes modern risk-based auditing methodologies to deliver high-quality financial assurance and internal consulting services.  

Audit recommendations are designed to ensure district practices adhere to GCPS standards of excellence, promote effective internal control frameworks, and safeguard public assets and trust. The audit function is organized under the professional standards set forth by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE)

Expertise: To effectively address a broad range of potential risks and exceed professional standards, the department strives to be, and currently is, staffed with experienced and credentialed  individuals holding the following professional certifications:

Reporting Suspected Fraud: The Internal Audit Department is committed to the prompt investigation and remediation of suspected fraud.

Board policy defines Fraud as "the intentional deception, misappropriation of resources, or the manipulation of data to the advantage or disadvantage of a person or entity." Additionally, Board policy outlines the responsibility of district staff to report known fraud, stating that "reporting suspected fraud for proper investigation and disposition should be the responsibility of all district employees."
