School Nutrition Program

Mission

As a partner in education, the Gwinnett County School Nutrition Program contributes to a successful academic experience and encourages a lifetime of healthy eating by providing each student with the affordable opportunity to consume meals that are nutritious, appealing, and served by caring professionals in a pleasant environment.

Vision

  • Provide the opportunity for all students to meet their daily, nutritional needs for meals consumed at school.
  • Provide healthy choices that comply with the Dietary Guidelines.
  • Be recognized by peers and the community as a leader in the school nutrition field.
  • Provide training for professional growth.
  • Provide nutrition education for all students.
  • Operate a financially sound program.
  • Maintain standards of sanitation set by the Health Department. 
  • Be an integral part of the comprehensive school health program.
  • Support policies that ensure all foods available to students during the school day comply with the Dietary Guidelines.
  • Continually improve the effectiveness of food production and service to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Encourage involvement of all employees in our professional associations.
  • Work cooperatively with school administrators and the PTA.
  • Utilize technology as needed to enhance effectiveness of program.

GCPS to provide breakfast and lunch during Seamless Summer Option

Gwinnett County Public Schools will be participating in the Seamless Summer Option (SSO).  GCPS’ School Nutrition Program will be providing breakfast and lunch at no charge at select locations during the summer

Meals will be provided to anyone 18 or under at select SSO sites from June 9 – June 27 at elementary and middle schools and from June 9 – July 2 at high schools.

Note: June 19th is a school holiday, and all GCPS locations will be closed.  Meals must be consumed on-site.  Please contact the designated school for meal serving times.

  • Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation will also be offering the Summer Meals Program.  You can find a serving location at the Summer Meals Program website.

Free & Reduced Price Meals Program

GCPS offers both printed and online options for completion.  Please remember a new application must be submitted each school year since the previous year's application will not work. Each new school year brings thousands of applications for the Free and Reduced Price Meal program.  Due to the number of applications received, an online application turnaround time is faster.  The online application is available in English and Spanish.

Special Dietary Needs

Per USDA regulations, School Food Authorities (SFAs) must ensure children with disabilities have an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. SFAs must make reasonable substitutions or modifications to accommodate children with disabilities when supported by a written medical statement from a state-licensed healthcare professional (licensed physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered dietitian). The medical statement must include a description of the child’s physical or mental impairment, an explanation of what must be done to accommodate the child’s disability, and the food(s) to be omitted and recommend alternatives (if applicable).

If your child requires meal substitutions or modifications, please submit a completed medical statement to the local School Nutrition Manager.
