Dr. Al Taylor
Interim Superintendent, Gwinnett County Public Schools
Dr. Taylor has been a dedicated leader in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) since 2002, serving in various roles to support student success. Since February 2021, he has worked as the district’s Chief of Schools, overseeing the Division of School Improvement and Operations. In this role, he has focused on helping schools operate efficiently and safely while maximizing student achievement. Under his leadership, the division provides direct support to schools, oversees the Local School Plan of Improvement process, and manages federal and special programs, including Title I.
A lifelong educator in Gwinnett, Dr. Taylor has held positions as a middle and high school teacher, a high school assistant principal, a middle and high school principal, and a middle school assistant superintendent. He is also a graduate of GCPS’ Quality-Plus Leader Academy Aspiring Principal Program (Cohort 4) and has taught graduate-level courses as an adjunct professor at Piedmont University.
Dr. Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree in business education from Georgia Southern University, as well as a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Georgia State University.
As interim superintendent, Dr. Taylor will continue serving the district through April 2, 2026, or until the board appoints a permanent superintendent.
