2027 GCPS Teacher of the Year

Here’s an overview of the selection process:

Step 1: All teachers at each participating GCPS school can nominate, view instructional videos of finalists, and vote for their local school Teacher of the Year. There is specific guidance for local school TOTY committee members.

Step 2: All school-level Teachers of the Year submit district applications that are blindly scored by the Phase I Committee. The 25 semifinalists for the county are selected.

Step 3: The 25 semifinalists’ applications are blindly scored by the Phase II Committee to determine the six finalists.

Step 4: The Phase II committee— made up of teachers, central office personnel, and administrators— conduct in-person classroom visits and complete thorough interviews with each educator.

The committee looks for effective teaching methods, the educator’s teaching philosophy, and considers the impact the teacher has on the teaching practices of his or her colleagues and students.

Step 5: From the six finalists, the Phase II committee selects a Teacher of the Year for each level— elementary, middle, and high and a runner-up. One of the level winners will be recognized as GCPS' district Teacher of the Year.

The local schools, Phase I and II committees put a lot of thought, care, and consideration into the process.
