Literacy Proficiency

GCPS has identified four high-impact focus areas for 2024–25 that align closely with the mission and vision of the organization and are rooted in Our Blueprint for the Future, the district’s strategic plan:

  • College and Career Readiness,
  • Each and Every Student,
  • Literacy Proficiency, and
  • Safe and Welcoming Schools.
Literacy Proficiency - BiA

The Blueprint in Action focus for the months of January, February, and March is Literacy Proficiency. During these months we will be spotlighting how our schools are empowering our students through literacy, specifically highlighting the efforts in GCPS to meet these objectives in our strategic plan:

  • Reduce variability and increase the fidelity of High-Quality Tier 1 instruction implementation for all students, including targeted small groups, grade level curriculum, ongoing formative assessments, and progress monitoring. 2.A

  • Increase students’ opportunities to learn and achieve by consistently implementing a high-quality curriculum that reflects grade-level expectations, focusing on early literacy and the science of reading. 2.B

  • Improve English learner resources and supports to accelerate language acquisition. 2.C
