Peer Leaders at Mill Creek HS: Building connections throughout the school

Students with good academic standing, no disciplinary issues, and a good reputation are invited to interview for the peer leader role with the Mill Creek High School counseling department. There are currently 71 peer leaders who were nominated by faculty and staff.

These students are involved in various community service projects, tutoring sessions, and support roles for school activities and office staff. Mill Creek High’s 1st period peer leaders help introduce new students to the school, review the new student’s schedule, and walk them to each class. As they tour the school, the peer leader will explain behavior expectations, how the lunch/homeroom period will work, how to access the media center, and answer any questions the student may have.

“This program is always the highlight of my day because I get to connect with fellow students, teachers, counsellors, administrators, and of course, other peer leaders,” says Rachel, Mill Creek High peer leader. “Being a peer leader has given me the opportunity to grow not only as a leader, but as a person. I thrive in environments based upon connection, and if it wasn't for peer leading, I would not have found this personable environment elsewhere.”
