  • Astronomy Club

  • AAA Safety Patrol Program

    Sponsor: Natalie Pugh

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): 

    Patrols direct children, not traffic. As school-age leaders in safety, 
    patrol members remind other students about safety on a peer-to-peer basis. 
    They also serve as role models for younger children who look up to them.

    As members of AAA School Safety Patrols, students have protected their classmates since 1916.

    In the 1930s, three national organizations: the American Automobile Association, the
    National Congress of Parents and Teachers, and the National Safety Council —
    collaborated on Standard Rules for the Operation of School By Patrols. These guidelines have been updated over the years to become the operating standards for AAA Safety Patrols.

    Meeting Dates: All year. 

    Open To: 5th grade students are elected by their teachers.

  • Art Club

    Sponsor: Kyle Fields 

    Description and National Affiliation (if any):  Creating art impacting a community! Working on various art projects throughout our school and the Brookwood community!

    Meeting Dates: Tuesday mornings from 7:00-7:45 AM in the art room. September-Before Spring Break

    Open To: All 4th Grade students who were accepted into the Art Club. 

  • Broadcast Club

    Sponsor: Sharon Amolo and Jennifer Mimms

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Broadcast Club members are responsible for anchoring the morning news each day. All participants serve as an anchor, recorder, or teleprompter operator for 4 weeks. 


    Meeting Dates: Assigned Mornings; August - May.

  • Cover to Cover Book Club

    Sponsor: Sharon Amolo

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The Cover 2 Cover Book Club is open to students who love to read and talk about books. Students will read an assigned book and meet about every 3 to 4 weeks to discuss the book and complete fun activities. 

    Meeting Dates: Fridays from 10:20-11:20 in the Media Center. September - March

  • Environmental Club

    Sponsors: Jan Bradley & Tina Cramer

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The purpose of our club is to educate the school staff and students about actions to address environmental issues. We also conduct activities to improve the environment. 

    Meeting Dates: Meets on Select Mornings 7:15-7:45 am. August-April

    Open To: 4th Grade Students Only. Students must fill out an application

  • Chess Club

    Sponsor: Tung Tran and Chess Wizards 

    Description and National Affiliation (if any):  The Chess Club is used to help children build social skills, increase IQ , improve memory function, develop creativity, stimulate both sides of the brain, and increase a child’s problem 

    Meeting Dates: 10 weeks 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/29
    Time: 2:45pm - 3:45pm - Wednesday
    NO Class: 11/22 Thanksgiving

    Open To: 1st Year Grade 4 but open to all other grade levels 

  • Chorus

    Sponsor: Lauren Blanchard

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The Gwin Oaks Chorus provides students in 4th and 5th Grade an opportunity to sing and perform a variety of repertoire while learning singing techniques and developing their musicianship. 

    Meeting Dates: Thursday mornings 7:00 - 7:45; September -  May

    Open To: Open to 4th and 5th Graders. 

  • GO Sew (Sewing Club)

    Sponsors: Sharon Amolo, Jennifer Mimms & Cindy Radamson

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): GO Sew Club members meet about twice a month to work on a variety of sewing projects.

  • Jr. Beta Club

    Sponsor: Jessie Hezlep, Mary Ashleigh Coleman, Jewel Anderson 

    Description and National Affiliation (if any):  Affiliated with Jr. National Beta Club, students strive to become tomorrow’s leaders.  The club focuses on the 4 pillars of Beta: achievement, character, service, and leadership. Students earn and log required service hours as well as complete 1-2 after-school service projects each year as a group.

  • KidzLife Club

    Hosted by: Grace Fellowship Church

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Small groups that connect and grow deeper in relationships with God.

  • Odyssey of the Mind

    Sponsor: Liz Davis/Parent Coach

    Description and National Affiliation (if any):  Student teams of up to 7 work together under the guidance of a parent coach to create a solution to a long-term problem. 

    Meeting Dates: To be determined by the parent coach 

    Open To: 3rd-5th graders 

  • Peer Mediators

    Sponsor: Natalie Pugh and Sara Penland

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Peer Mediators work as ambassadors for peace throughout the school. With supervision from the counselors, they assist students with resolving minor conflicts. Peer Mediators are supervised and trained by Gwin Oaks School Counselors. 

    Meeting Dates: Training Dates:August 23, Aug 24 at 7:15 am; Mediation throughout the school year as needed

    Open To: 5th graders selected through an application process 

  • Read Between the Lines

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The Read Between the Lines Book Club is open to students who love to read and talk about books. Students will read an assigned book and meet about every 3 to 4 weeks to discuss the book and complete fun activities.

  • Robotics Club

    Sponsors: Jennifer Travis and Shannon Jameson

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Students will have the opportunity to work collaboratively on research-based activities that involve creation of Lego constructs and programming of these devices. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in First Lego League tournaments within the county.

    Meeting Dates: Thursday afternoons from 2:45 - 4:30pm. The First Lego League season runs from September -February.

    Open To: Applications are for 4th and 5th grade students to be eligible for First Lego League (FLL) tournaments. Limited number of students. (Teams are already full for the 23-24 school year)
