  • AAA Safety Patrol Program

    Sponsor: Natalie Pugh

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Patrols direct children, not traffic. As school-age leaders in safety, patrol members remind other students about safety on a peer-to-peer basis. They also serve as role models for younger children who look up to them. 

    As members of AAA School Safety Patrols, students have protected their classmates since 1916. 

    In the 1930s, three national organizations: the American Automobile Association, the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, and the National Safety Council — collaborated on Standard Rules for the Operation of School By Patrols. These guidelines have been updated over the years to become the operating standards for AAA Safety Patrols.

    Meeting Dates: All year. 

    Open To: 5th grade students are elected by their teachers.

  • Art Club

    Sponsor: Kyle Fields 

    Description and National Affiliation (if any):  Creating art impacting a community! Working on various art projects throughout our school and the Brookwood community!

    Meeting Dates: Mondays After School from 2:45-3:45 PM in the art room. September-Before Spring Break.

    Open To: All 4th Grade students who were accepted into the Art Club. 

  • Broadcast Club

    Sponsor: Sharon Amolo

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Broadcast Club members are responsible for anchoring the morning news each day. All participants will serve as anchors for a week. Students will record their segments at home and upload them for later viewing.


    Meeting Dates:No official meeting dates. August - May.

    Students record segments at home and upload to a shared Google Drive.

  • Cover to Cover Book Club

    Sponsor: Sharon Amolo

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The Cover 2 Cover Book Club is open to students who love to read and talk about books. Students will read an assigned book and meet about twice a month to discuss the book and complete fun activities.

    Meeting Dates: We will meet during Lunch on Wednesdays from 11:15-11:50 in the Media Center. August - March

  • Environmental Club

    Sponsors: Jan Bradley & Tina Cramer

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The purpose of our club is to educate the school staff and students about actions to address environmental issues. We also conduct activities to improve the environment.

    Meeting Dates: Meets on Select Mornings 7:15-7:45 am. August-April

    Open To: 4th Grade Students Only. Student must fill out an application

  • Fifth Grade Chorus

    Sponsor: Jeff Joppich

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The Fifth Grade Chorus offers experiences for students who like to sing, wish to learn beginning choral techniques, and want to perform at school and in community settings.

    Meeting Dates: Thursday afternoons 2:45- 3:45 PM. September -  March

    Open To: Applications are accepted at the beginning of the fifth grade year along with a $25 fee. Chorus students are expected to show an enthusiasm for learning music and are to be responsible and respectful at all times.  Students who achieved an E or S in conduct on the report card for the fourth-grade year may apply.

  • GO Sew (Sewing Club)

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): GO Sew Club members meet about twice a month to work on a variety of sewing projects.

    Meeting Dates: Meets 1-2 times a month after school

  • KidzLife Club

  • Read Between the Lines

    Sponsor: Sharon Amolo and Don Giacomini (GCPS Public Library)

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The Read Between the Lines Book Club is open to students who love to read and talk about books that reflect a variety of cultures and people. Students will read an assigned book and meet about twice a month to discuss the book complete and complete fun activities

    Meeting Dates: Meets 1-2 times a month from 11:50-12:40

  • Robotics Club

    Sponsors:Sandra Bratescu, Jennifer Travis, and Stephanie Brown

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Students will have the opportunity to work collaboratively on research-based activities that involve creation of Lego constructs and programming of these devices. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in First Lego League tournaments within the county.

    Meeting Dates: Mondays and Thursday afternoons from 2:35 - 3:35pm. The First Lego League season runs from September -February.

    Open To: Applications are for 4th and 5th grade students to be eligible for First Lego League (FLL) tournaments. Number of students is limited to 10 students per FLL team. An application must be completed and turned into Ms. Brown by September 3rd, 2021.

  • Science Olympiad

    Sponsor: Mrs. Stolz

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): Science Olympiad's is an awesome science competition using STEM disciplines to provide rigorous, standards-based challenges that expose students to practicing scientists and cool career choices. The team will compete in the Brookwood Science Olympiad Tournament. If we qualify, we will compete in the State Tournament in Kennesaw, GA.

    Meeting Dates: Meetings will be scheduled before school December - February/March; there is a possibility we will continue to May if we qualify for the State Tournament.nament.

    Open To: 4th and 5th grade students must fill out an application and complete a test for admission.

  • Story Makers

    Sponsor: Sharon Amolo & Don Giacomini (GCPS Public Library) 

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The Story Makers Book Club is open to 3rd grade students who love to read. Students will read an assigned book and meet once a month to discuss the book and complete fun activities.

    Meeting Dates: Meets 1 a month in the Media Center. 1:45-2:35

  • Student Council

    Description and National Affiliation (if any): The purpose of Student Council is to foster pride, increase awareness, support the school, and encourage student leadership.  Classroom representatives are expected to report back to their homerooms about activities going on around Gwin Oaks!

    Meeting Dates: Meets in the PLC room from 2:45 - 3:45 PM one Monday a month from September thru March (except for the month of December)

    Open To: 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders interested first complete an application in August. Classroom representatives are elected in August.  Officers are elected in September at the first Student Council meeting.
