100 BOOK CHALLENGE
Sponsor: Shann Griffith
Grade Level(s): Kindergarten - 1st Grade
Description:
Kindergarten and 1st grade students read 100 books (or have parents read to them). Write the names of the books on any piece of paper. Turn it into Mrs. Griffith in the Media Center. Students will be spotlighted on the Headline Morning News Show.Independent Reading (No meeting times)

ART CLUB

Description:
The Head Art Club is open to any 5th grader who has an interest in growing as an artist! Fifth graders must apply to join the Art Club (more information on applications and deadlines coming soon on the 2020 Dyson/Pruitt Visual Arts eClass page). This year we will be offering two different Art Club options: The Tuesday Sculpture class will meet on Tuesday mornings beginning September 10th and will meet each Tuesday morning until December 17th. Beginning in January, students can apply to join the Friday Contemporary Craft class, which will begin on January 17th and meet every Friday through May 1st. Both classes will meet before school from 7:45am to 8:20am. -
BASKETBALL CLUB

Description:
This club will be run on specified Friday mornings during the winter months. This club will be capped at between 15-20 students and is open to 4th and 5th grade students. Permission slips will be distributed prior to the start of the club and parents will be notified via email as to the status of their student.2019-2020 Basketball Club Permission Slip
For the 2019-2020 school year, the Basketball Club will meet each Friday morning beginning on Friday, January 10, 2020 and end with the completion of our Friday, February 7, 2020 session. The club meets from 7:30 – 8:30 AM on the above dates.

BRONCOS L.E.A.D

Description:
BRONCOS L.E.A.D. is a club offered to 4th and 5th grade students. In BRONCOS L.E.A.D., students have opportunities to learn about and participate in activities focused on Leadership, Equity, Advocacy, and Diversity. BRONCOS L.E.A.D. meets every other Wednesday after school. Pick-up time is at 4:45. -
CHORUS

Description:
Our mission is to provide an extracurricular singing group for students in fourth and fifth grade. The Head Chorus will rehearse Wednesdays before school from 7:45-8:20 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to perform many times throughout the year, including the Veterans Day program and the Art Show. There will be other performing opportunities throughout the year. Students will be required to participate in a simple audition if they wish to sing a solo or duet for our performances. The Head Chorus' purpose is to give students music-making opportunities while they are learning to sing in a large group. This club only meets in the Fall Semester. -
FIRST LEGO LEAGUE ROBOTICS TEAM (FALL TEAM)

Description:
Selected members (through an application process) will work together as a team to prepare for and compete in the FLL competition in December. In early fall, FLL releases a Challenge which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the FLL Core Values. Teams participate in the Challenge by programming a robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FLL Core Values. Teams may then choose to attend an official tournament.For more information: First Lego League
Practices for selected students will be held starting in September. Team member parents and students may visit the Head Elementary Robotics eCLASS page for a practice calendar and additional team information.

ROBOTICS CLINICS

Description:
Spring Robotics Clinics for 3rd-5th grade will be held in February. Come and learn to program Mindstorm EV3 robots! Before the clinic starts, students should watch the following tutorial videos.If interested, please complete & return the application by February 6, 2020.

RUNNING CLUB

Description:
This club will be run on Tuesday afternoons (directly after school) during a segment of the Fall Semester. The maximum number of participants will be capped to ensure proper supervision and student safety. This club is open to 3rd-5th grade students. Permission slips will be distributed prior to the start of the club and parents will be notified via email as to the status of their student. -
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

Description:
Science Olympiad is a competitive event where school teams work to become experts in 18 different science and engineering contests. Head Elementary's team has been Gwinnett County's top team each year since 2014 and has regularly placed in the top 20 in Georgia during those years. This club will meet on Tuesdays at 3:45 PM starting in October and will go through May. -
STUDENT COUNCIL

Description:
Student Council is a group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are committed to being a voice for their peers. Student Council's mission is to work towards the inclusion of all students. This club will meet every other Wednesday morning beginning at 7:45. -
VIDEO CLUB

Grade Level(s): 5th Grade
Description:
All 5th grade students will be given a chance to be news anchors on the Morning News. Students will learn to produce a movie using iMovie. No sign-ups required. Students will meet during lunch. -
WITZZLE PRO MATH CLUB

Grade Level(s): 4th & 5th Grade
Description:
Witzzle Pro is for 4th and 5th grade students. A witzzle (witty puzzle) is comprised of a unique 3–by-3 array of the digits 1-9. Students are challenged to manipulate 3 digits and 2 operations to equal a target number. Students must draw on their knowledge of basic math facts, understanding of number and operations, and problem solving strategies. The club will participate in a tournament with neighboring schools and then in a county wide tournament. You can play online or order your own game and play at home with friends and family. It is a fun way to hone those math skills. Starting in October, this club will meet every other Friday morning from 7:45 AM until 8:20 AM to practice for a Witzzle Pro Math Tournament held in the spring. -
WORLD MUSIC CLUB

Description:
Mrs. Mraz will be offering a World Music Club. We will play instruments, including drums and xylophones, and learn about music from all over the world. A permission slip will be sent home in January.
