Welcome Letter in English             Welcome Letter in Spanish

    Hello Coleman Middle School Community!

I want to thank the entire Coleman Middle School and Duluth Community for the warm welcome! I am proud to have been appointed as your new principal at Coleman Middle School, Georgia’s and Gwinnett’s first certified STEAM School.

If you have not had the opportunity to watch my introduction video, I would like to invite you to use the link at the bottom of this page and find out how my personal and educational background bring me full circle to place my values, education, and professional and leadership skills at the service of Coleman Middle School.

I am extremely optimistic as we start 2022! During this transition, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work closely with Dr. Mozley, our outgoing principal, and learn the history behind Coleman Middle School and the land that contributed to the education of several generations in the Duluth community. I am impressed by the quality of the educational experience that the faculty, staff, and students, with the partnership of parents and community members, have developed in 6 years. Your efforts and accomplishments are particularly remarkable considering that the challenges associated with the last 18 months of the COVID 19 pandemic have taken place in almost one third of the time since the school was founded.

I have learned that the faculty and staff at Coleman Middle School are fully invested in the school’s vision and mission. They have sustained the development of a solid educational program to prepare students for college and careers in fields that may not even exist yet. They continue the creation of student-focused learning experiences that promote life-long learning and real-world problem solving through the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts (STEAM) in a global learning community.

The Coleman Middle School STEAM lens allows students to learn in a way that is relevant to them through Problem/Project Based Learning (PBL) units. PBLs are grounded in real-world problems centered on power Academic Knowledge and Skills standards. Our students are engaged because they can empathize with the real-world problem and communicate the significance of finding a solution, while collaborating authentically with their teachers and peers. Finally, Coleman Middle School students are able to express their creativity through the use of design elements and principles. Coleman Middle School trend data supports that the STEAM approach has led to high levels of student achievement and student engagement.

As your new principal my absolute priority is the overall well-being of our children. As an educational leader, I will focus on shared and engaged leadership to sustain and continue growing our instructional program, a positive school culture for all, and efficient school operations. In the first months as a Principal my two goals are to engage in a Learning Tour through engagement with all stakeholders to continue learning about Coleman Middle School and the Duluth Community and to sustain an organic and effective transition.

I am honored to join this great community!
