Dear Senior Class of 2022,
Dear Senior Class of 2022,
Senior Dues: Senior Dues can be paid on the Scholastic website.
Senior dues are $140. The cost will increase 2nd semester to $160 and then again in March to $180.

Seniors are expected to pay senior dues in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. Scholastic Images will only take a one-time payment, if you need a payment plan, then please email Mrs. Beck before the end of September. Once you pay your senior dues, please complete the form for your senior yard sign. You must complete this form to give us the correct spelling of your name for the sign. Signs will NOT be printed unless this form is completed. If you need a payment plan, then please see/email Mrs. Beck (Jenny.Beck@gcpsk12.org) as soon as possible to set up a plan. Payment plans must be started by January. Prom is NOT included in senior dues.
Senior Yard Signs: Yard signs are included in dues, but you must place an order using this form. Please do not complete the form until you have paid your dues (same as purchasing a cap and gown package from Scholastic Images). You must be logged into your student GCPS Google account for the form to allow you permission to open it. Please check this if the form is not working.
Don't forget to sign up for the senior Remind to receive important updates (both parents and seniors can sign up) and to check the Senior Class eCLASS page periodically for important information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will there be a senior cookout this year?
There will be a senior cookout/yearbook pick-up event on Thursday, May 12th, at 6 pm. It is for students only. Seniors must purchase a $5 ticket on MyPaymentsPlus to reserve their spot. Ticket sales will open on April 1st and close at the end of April. Seniors who have purchased a yearbook will be able to pick up their yearbooks at this event and have friends sign the yearbook.
Will we have locker boards this year?
Locker boards will be distributed on the day of cap and gown pick up- April 14th. We will have locker board night on Thursday, April 28th, from 5:30 - 6:30. Parents or students can drop in anytime between 5:30 - and 6:30 p.m. to hang the locker board up that evening. There will be instructions on how to create the board - handed out with the locker board. You must have a locker to hang a locker board on - lockers are available on mypaymentsplus.com. Please purchase your locker by 4/13 to receive your locker board at cap and gown pick up. If you purchase your locker after 4/13, simply stop by room 1.300 to grab a locker board. Lockers must be hung using magnets (hot gluing round craft magnets on the back works the best).
What if my family wants to do senior letters?
Senior Letters: This is a completely optional activity where you ask family, friends, and any other significant people in the child’s life to write them a letter. The letter can be congratulating the senior on graduation, wishing the senior well in his/her next phase of life, or reminiscing about fond memories. The number of letters does not matter. Due to issues with mail and letters getting lost, we ask that families gather the letters (have sent to their home) and present them to their senior at an appropriate time (grad party, family celebration, grad day, etc...). Some families will make a book of the letters, some will just present the senior with a large envelope, and some families will not choose to do this at all. This is simply an idea of a way for you to celebrate your senior at home.
Is there a graduation practice?
Yes – Graduation practice is Friday, May 27th at 9:00 AM at Grayson High School. Please be on time. Practice is mandatory for all students participating in the ceremony. Ask off work and make plans to attend now. Please allow three hours for practice. You will receive your graduation tickets at practice.
How many graduation tickets will each senior receive?
Each graduate who has paid their senior dues (purchased a cap and gown) and participates in the graduation ceremony will receive 10 tickets for the ceremony. The graduate does not need a ticket. Tickets will be dispersed at the end of May. Tickets will be distributed at practice on May 27th. The school has no additional tickets, the ceremony will be live-streamed.
When is graduation? What time do seniors have to be there?
Sunday, May 29th at 7 PM at Gas South Arena. Seniors must arrive at 5 pm, and doors open to the public at 6 pm. All guests must have a ticket – the graduate does not need a ticket. The policy of the arena is that guests under 2 do not require a ticket if they sit in a lap.
What do seniors wear to graduation?
The students’ attire at graduation is very important. All gowns will be green with a gold stole. Don’t forget your cap, tassel, stole, or gown. Ladies, you are expected to wear a dress or a skirt and blouse or very nice dress pants. Girls should have on appropriate dress shoes – this can include dressy sandals, but no flip flops. We strongly recommend comfortable dress shoes as you will be standing in the tunnels of the Arena for over an hour. Also, there is a hard covering over the floor that is a little slippery – please be mindful when choosing your shoes. The boys should wear khaki or dark dress pants, a dress shirt, tie if desired, and appropriate dress shoes. We strongly encourage no tennis shoes or tennis shoe-like apparel. Guests should wear business casual.
What items can seniors wear with the gown?
It is policy that students may only wear stoles or cords from Grayson or GCPS honor societies or sponsored activities. You can not wear stoles, cords, etc.. that are purchased from somewhere else or represent something other than a GHS or GCPS-sponsored activity. Also, caps cannot be decorated. Items that are not sponsored by GHS or GCPS will be confiscated and can be picked up at the school at a later date.
What can seniors bring to graduation?
The only items seniors may bring to the arena are a cap, gown, and one car key. All cell phones and any other items will be collected and can be picked up at the school during the week following graduation. We recommend leaving all other belongings at home or in your car to save you the time of having to retrieve them from school later. All students will walk into the Arena with cap and gown in hand so that clothing can be checked. Remember to write your name inside your graduation cap. Caps can NOT be decorated for the ceremony. All students will pass through metal detectors.
What time can family and friends enter the arena? What should they expect?
The arena opens the doors at 6 pm for friends and family. The arena has a clear bag policy. Please visit the Gas South Arena website for more details on their policies. Please remind family and friends to not bring any noisemakers, air horns, signs, etc… These items will be confiscated. Friends and family seating is general admission. Parking will be free.
Why do seniors have to be at graduation so early?
Seniors arrive at graduation early, two hours before the ceremony begins. This year that means being at the Arena and in your seats by 5:00 PM. Guests will be allowed in approximately one hour before the ceremony (6:00 PM). Therefore, seniors must sit in their seats and recess out into the tunnels BEFORE the guests enter, so seniors must be there early. Guests over the age of two must have a ticket to enter the Arena. While the guests are being seated and the graduates are waiting in the tunnels to march in, there isn’t really much to do except socialize with one another one last time. (You can’t have anything with you because there is nowhere to put anything. Everything other than one car key will be checked at the door. Ladies, if your dress, skirt, or dress pants don’t have a pocket, you need to figure out something to do with your car key. You can put it on a lanyard.
How long is the graduation ceremony? What do seniors do during graduation?
This year’s graduation will be approximately two hours long. It varies a little depending on the number of graduates in a class and the length of the songs and speeches that are given. During the ceremony, you just sit and watch and listen respectfully. It is appropriate to applaud after speeches, songs, and special awards. However, when the names of the seniors are being called, we ask that you hold your applause until the end. Please share this etiquette with your family as well. If we take the time to clap for each individual person, we could be at graduation for hours. We also ask that you do not scream for each other. If one person’s name is called and people start screaming, we can’t hear the name of the next person—this is true not only during the ceremony but on the videotape and live stream as well. Graduates and family members who cannot exercise proper etiquette will be escorted out of the arena. Graduation is a formal ceremony.
What is the ceremony like?
The ceremony begins with the seniors marching to their seats. Seniors will remain standing for the Presentation of Colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, and the Moment of Silence. The seniors will then be seated for a series of short speeches and songs. For diploma distribution - Seniors will rise when their section or row rises and begin walking toward the stage. When your name is called, you will step forward, shake hands, and receive your diploma cover. (You will get your actual diploma from a side table on your way back to your seat) .Finally, the senior council will come to the podium and introduce you to the world as Grayson High School’s Class of 2022. You will turn your class ring, move your tassel from the left side of your cap to the right, have a cap toss (straight above you because we will recess out quickly), and recess out of the Arena. Family and friends will meet you outside of the Arena. Plan a meeting place.
What if I don’t want to participate in the graduation ceremony?
Please let Mrs. Beck know as soon as possible. You will be able to pick up your diploma from the school the week after graduation. Please call the front office before coming to ensure a counselor is present to give you the diploma.
How do I keep up to date on senior happenings?
