National Green Schools Society Details
The Osborne Middle School National Green Schools Society is a student-centered environmental organization whose mission is to protect, conserve, and improve the environment by taking action and spreading awareness on local, regional, and global environmental issues. The club furthers this mission through regularly volunteering in the community, hosting recycling drives, collaborating with the Mill Creek NGSS, and cleaning up parks. Osborne NGSS is dedicated to helping keep the school clean for future students, through a recycling initiative and campus clean-ups.
Description of Activities:
Students will select an environmental service project or multiple projects for the year, they will need to complete at least 20 hours of service hours through clean up initiatives, and they will create templates for the scrolling announcements to raise awareness of specific conservation and environmental days.
Students will need to pledge a minimum of 20 hours of environmental service to their school and community, keep a log of those service hours, plan an environmental service project, and attend club meetings. Students who log at least 20 hours or more of environmental service have the opportunity to be awarded pins at the end of the school year:
- 20-39 Service and Education Hours: Bronze Leaf Pin
- 40-69 Service and Education Hours: Silver Leaf Pin
- 70-100+ Service and Education Hours: Gold Leaf Pin
