Cell Phone/Personal Electronic Devices
-
Thanks to the new GCPS 1:1 device initiative this year, all students will have access to a device for academic purposes throughout the school day. Additionally, the BYOD network is now turned off so no personal devices (cell phones, tablets, personal laptops, AirPods, etc.) will be needed or used at school. If a student brings a cell phone to school, it should be turned off and stored in their backpack during all hallway transitions and classes. If students have a cell phone, they are permitted to take it to lunch. Students are responsible for the security of their cell phones. If a personal device of any kind is lost or stolen, the school is not responsible for restitution nor are we obligated to investigate. If a student needs to contact home for any reason, they may do so from any office within the school.
If a student’s cell phone is visible during class, a warning will be issued by the teacher with a request to put the cell phone away in the student’s backpack. On the second offense, a teacher will confiscate the cell phone, turn it into the front office, and contact the parent to make them aware of the situation. The students may pick it up at the end of the school day. Any subsequent offenses will result in an administrative referral. For the safety and security of our students, cell phones are strictly prohibited from any restroom in the building. If evidence suggests a cell phone was used in a restroom, an administrative referral will be issued to the student.
