• Dear Parents and Students,

I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer.  Our staff is hard at work preparing for our amazing NGMS students to return soon!  It’s hard to believe it is just around the corner.   Below are a few important items as we approach the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year:

Open House – Monday, July 31st

    • Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
    • Students can access their schedules using StudentVUE in their student portal starting Sunday, July 30th
    • Report to homeroom first to complete paperwork and pick up the paper schedule
    • Visit all classes and teachers
    • PTSA will have a membership table and spirit wear available for purchase
    • Transportation representatives will be in the cafeteria with bus route information and times. Parents can also access bus information through ParentVUE in the parent portal
    • Cafeteria representatives will be available to answer meal questions
    • Walker pass applications can be completed in the cafeteria for those students who wish to walk home from school
    • School supplies can be dropped off with your teachers (see supply list information below)
    • Parking will be available in the front parking lot and the lower parking lot off West Price Road. We will also have a shuttle bus running from Gwinnett Church during the hours of 9:00 am-1:00 pm.  The shuttle will drop you off and pick you up at the front door!

Things to do before Open House

    1. Go to your MyPaymentsPlus account (Directions for creating an account)
    2. Acknowledge the GCPS documents section
    3. Complete contributions and class fees
    4. Check the Student Portal for the schedule after July 30, 2023
    5. Check student/parent data information on the Parent Portal and update accordingly. (Directions for using the Parent Portal)

In MyPaymentsPlus, you will find the contributions for this school year including connections classes, technology, clinic, etc. There is also a class fee for field trips and special events. Instead of asking parents to pay for field trips that take place at school and off-campus throughout the year, we collect a class fee at the start of the school year. This fee will cover the trips and special events for the grade level this school year. The 8th-grade fee is a little higher than the 6th and 7th grades since they have more events and a class t-shirt. Thank you for your financial support of these programs.

    Supply Lists

We have generic supply lists for each grade level posted on the school website. Teachers may add specific items for their class, but the general list is a great starting point. Feel free to bring some of the bulky supply items with you to Open House.

    Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy

Thanks to the GCPS 1:1 device initiative, all students will have access to a device for academic purposes throughout the school day. Additionally, the BYOD network is turned off so no personal devices (cell phones, tablets, personal laptops, AirPods, etc.) will be needed or used at school. If a student brings a cell phone to school, it should be turned off and stored in their backpack throughout the school day. If a student needs to contact home for any reason, they may do so from any office within the school.

ParentSquare is the new platform used by GCPS to communicate with families this school year.  We will roll it out in stages beginning with whole-school notifications while we work on getting all of our families signed up.   Later this semester, we will send information about teacher use of ParentSquare at the classroom level. Please click here to access more information about this tool and how to activate your account.

    First Day of School

We are excited to have ALL students begin school in person on Wednesday, August 2nd.   Seventh and eighth-grade students returning to NGMS should come to school on the first day with their school-issued Chromebook and charger.  Sixth graders and any new student to NGMS will receive their Chromebook on the first day of school. All students should bring their Chromebook fully charged each day to school.

I am looking forward to an excellent 2023-2024 school year! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions.

    Kindest Regards,

    Sheri J. Gilbert
