    The mission of the Parkview High School Peer Leadership Program is to extend the services of the Parkview Counseling Department providing support and assistance in the removal of barriers to students' academic achievement through mentoring, tutoring, conflict mediation, lesson facilitation, group counseling and leadership.

  • Peer Leader Code of Ethics

    1. Peer Leaders are expected to positively and honorably represent themselves and our school by maintaining the highest personal standards of morality and behavior; including but not limited to trustworthiness, honesty, respect, and responsibility. They are expected to be positive role models and be an example of a healthy lifestyle. They are to strive to be an example of our peer leading philosophy in ALL life situations.

    2. Peer Leaders are expected to be reliable; being at school every day is of the highest importance in order to successfully fulfill the duties of a peer leader.

    3. Peer Leaders are expected to maintain good grades (A’s and B’s) throughout the school year.

    4. Peer Leaders are expected to make positive contributions to our group and our school.

    5. Peer Leaders will be privy to confidential information that may be imparted by others to them during the course of program-related activities. It is expected that information shared in the group and in other activities be kept strictly confidential except in cases of the following (this information must be shared with the peer leadership coordinator):

    a. Disclosure of situations involving dangers to the safety of the peer leader, mentee or others.

    b. Disclosure of child abuse, sexual abuse or other similar situations.

    c. Disclosure of severe family issues, abnormal behavior, drug/alcohol abuse and any other issues that are beyond the Peer Leaders ability to provide assistance.


  • Benefits of Peer Leadership

    Peer Leading is based on the well-documented fact that students most often seekout others for help when they are experiencing a worry, concern or problem. Peer leading is a situation in which students learn to listen and help facilitate the growth and development of other children. This student-leader model has proven to be an effective means of enhancing student self-awareness, self-esteem, and social interaction skills by providing positive educational contacts with students trained as a role model and helping friend.

    Peer Leading Objectives:

    1)To provide students with the opportunity to establish meaningful and caring relationships with their peers.

    2)To train students in helping skills such as listening, communications, problem solving, and conflict management.

    3)To provide peer helping resources to the school community such as academic assistance, problem solving, mediation, and other services.

    4)To develop and enhance students leadership, self-esteem and interpersonal skills.

    5)To create a school climate in which people demonstrate care for each other.

    6)To extend the counseling services of the school.


  • Interested in Becoming A Peer Leader?

    • Are you a Parkview student that will be in 11th or 12th grade the following school year?

    • Do you have a desire to serve/help others?

    • Are you a positive role model to your peers?

    • Do you make A’s and B’s or can you show that you have improved in academic performance from 9th to end of 10th grade?

    • Do you have a clean discipline history or can you show that you have improved in behavior?

    • Do you come to school everyday?

    • Are you willing to participate in a group interview and individual interview?

    • Are you willing to sign a contract and make a two year commitment (if you are a rising junior)?
