Welcome to Social & Emotional Learning at Buice Center
Practice Mindfulness Here
Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) refers to the process of developing the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. It is an approach to education that helps students develop the social and emotional competencies they need to be successful in school and in life. It is a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to education that addresses the whole child, not just their academic progress.
Here at the Buice Center, the SEL mission is for our students to continue to develop the social emotional skills of self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making ~through intentional and integrated SEL instruction. The goal is to help students become emotionally and socially intelligent individuals who can navigate the challenges of life with resilience, compassion, and integrity. We are committed to increasing our staff’s capacity to model self-awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship building, and responsible decision-making. Our SEL approach seeks to maintain our inclusive, equitable, and safe community of students, staff, and partners who are committed to being self-aware, caring, responsible, healthy individuals- able to maintain supportive relationships while working together to honor diversity, equity, and inclusion- for each and every student to ultimately achieve their goals. We look forward to a continued partnership this year as we embark on our SEL journey together.
