5th Grade Flag Helpers
Sponsor: Shannon Robertson
Six 5th graders are trained on how to raise and lower the flag correctly and with respect to their country and state. Students are taught civic responsibility and respect for situations that require the flag to be lowered at half-staff.

5th Grade Running Club
Sponsor: Shannon Robertson
We partner with the Atlanta Track Club’s Kilometer Kids program to offer a free running club to students to enhance access to quality physical activity experiences. Students will work toward a marathon during the 11-week program, earning incentives at miles 5, 10, 15, 20 and 26.2. A free 1-mile fun run is also offered at Tribble Mill Park.

Britt Peer Leaders/ Comet Captains

The PEER LEADER program at Britt allows fifth graders to participate in activities that enhance leadership skills and personal responsibility, while also demonstrating respect for self and others. The program not only prepares students for leadership roles in and out of the classroom, but it also provides examples of good character for other Britt students. Britt Peer Leaders will assist in the capacity of technology leaders, new student mentoring, and general faculty and staff assistance. Peer Leaders will also attend monthly leadership sessions with the school counselor.

Broadcast Team

Britt has a fully student-produced morning news show every morning at 8:50. Three groups of
5th grade students manage the show for alternating months during the year, and every student in the club has the opportunity to participate either in an on-air anchor and a behind-the-scenes equipment role. -
Chess Club

We will
- solve problems that arise in mathematics and in other areas
- make and investigate mathematical conjectures
- select and use various types of reasoning and methods of proof
- analyze and evaluate the mathematical thinking and strategies of others
- recognize and apply mathematics in contexts outside of mathematics
- use representations to model and interpret physical, social, and mathematical phenomena
- and of course, to have fun!

Chorus

Students in grades four and five can participate in the Britt Chorus. Concerts are given in December and May. In 2010, the Britt Chorus also sang at the lighting of the Snellville Christmas Tree, and in 2011 and 2012 they sang the National Anthem prior to Gwinnett Braves Games!

Reader's Rally

Readers' Rally is a reading competition which promotes a love of reading by placing an emphasis on reading comprehension. Britt Elementary sends a team of students to compete against other schools at the Readers' Rally Competition. Both fourth and fifth graders are eligible to join the team.

Media Helpers

Witzzle Pro Math
Sponsor: Lisa Brown
The purpose of the club is to practice playing a math game called "Witzzle Pro" which helps students become more fluent in math number sense and equations. Students use 3 numbers and any of the operations (add, multiply, subtract or divide) and the order of operations rule to find a target number. A Witzzle Pro tournament will be held in the Spring. This club is open to 4th and
5th grade students.
