Mr. Jonathan Day

Greetings Harmony Parents,

I am honored to become the next principal of Harmony Elementary.  For the last twenty-five years I have been preparing for this exciting opportunity.  This afternoon I had the opportunity to meet the staff at Harmony, and I can’t wait to meet all of the students.  In the coming weeks, I will be working closely with Ms. Keskonis to ensure a smooth transition for the next school year.

I am a veteran educator who has spent my entire twenty-five years in Gwinnett County.  Sixteen of those years were spent teaching in elementary and middle schools and the past nine years I have served as the assistant principal and principal of Mulberry Elementary in the Dacula Cluster. I went to high school in New York, but graduated from Georgia State University with my Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education and Masters in Educational Leadership.

On a personal note, I have been married for twenty-two years. My wife, Malinda, is a middle school instructional coach at Dacula Middle.  My son, Harper, is a sophomore at Dacula High School and is very involved in student government.  We live in Dacula and have been thankful for the great education Harper has received in Gwinnett County Public Schools.

I loved my time at Mulberry and leaving Mulberry was a difficult decision, but I couldn’t be happier to join the team at Harmony.  I know it will be a big task to follow Ms. Keskonis, but I will work tirelessly to earn your trust.  I am extremely excited to be joining the Harmony family and the Mill Creek Cluster.  I look forward to meeting and talking with many of you soon.

My name is Candace Jones and I am proud to serve as Assistant Principal at Harmony Elementary. I have been a part of the Harmony community since 2008 as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and parent before moving into my current role last year.  I love that our community truly acts as a family and I believe in the power of the relationships that we have.  Our parents, teachers, and administration work together to ensure that our students have the best education possible.

I am Gwinnett County homegrown, as a graduate of Central Gwinnett High School.  After graduating with my degree in education, I was excited to return to Gwinnett to begin my teaching career.  I have experience teaching first and third grades, Lead ESOL teacher, and Math Coach.  This experience helps me to support our teachers and parents each day.

At Harmony, we put children first in every decision that we make, and I am honored to be a part of such an amazing school.  I look forward to working with our parents and students to make this the best year ever!

I am Emily Nelson, and it is an honor to serve as an Assistant Principal at Harmony.  I love my role supporting our staff, students, and parents as we work together to create a strong learning community that encourages every learner to be successful.

I am in my 15th year in education.  As a product of Gwinnett County Schools, it has been so wonderful to work in the district that was part of my educational journey.  I began my career teaching first grade, and then served many years as a K-5 Literacy Coach, where I provided professional development to teachers.  I am currently in my 6th year at Harmony as an administrator.

I encourage you to become an active participant in your child’s education by communicating regularly with your child’s teacher, taking advantages of opportunities to volunteer at school, and becoming involved with our PTA.  I look forward to a great school year as we build a partnership together to support our incredible students.
