Beginning in the fall of 2017, Fort Daniel's faculty, staff, and students were randomly selected to be in one of five school families. The vision of Fort Daniel's family structure is to provide a structure for vertical mentorship among our staff and students, and to add an additional layer of culture that would not replace the culture of the classroom, but enhance the school's overall culture.
The name of each school family is derived from a positive virtue or characteristic that we would want our faculty, staff, and students to posess. We translated those virtues into languages represented by our school community to form the family names.
As new students enroll at Fort Daniel, they are placed in one of the five families. At the beginning of each year, all new students that have enrolled over the summer, and all kindergarten students participate in a family selection ceremony which is celebrated by their new family members.
Each family is able to earn points throughout the year for excelling in academics, behavior, community events, and school competitions. At the end of each school year, the winning family is rewarded with special recognition and a sense of accomplishment.
