The Gateway Assessment was developed for the purpose of measuring and reporting student progress on the Gwinnett County core curriculum - the Academic Knowledge and Skills.  Students take this test for the first time in the spring of their sophomore year.  The content areas covered on this test include Science and Social Studies.

The format of this test is ESSAY.  The Gateway Assessment measures students' ability to write effectively about 9th and 10th grade Science (Biology and Chemistry) and Social Studies (World History).

All students must demonstrate knowledge of the Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.  All students must pass the Gwinnett County High School Gateway Assessment before earning a diploma.

Students will have several opportunities to retake the assessment if they are not successful the first time.
