For 5th Grade Students

Art Club is an opportunity for students to work on extended art projects in a small group setting. It is an environment of fun and creative learning. A variety of sessions are offered and vary each year. The Art Club sessions might include Painting, Jewelry, Duct Tape Art, Sculpture, Clay, Sewing, Weaving, etc. Students can sign up for one or more sessions at a time. Each session runs for six weeks and they receive a unique T-Shirt available only to Art Club members. Art Club has been involved in creating backdrops for Drama, painting enlarged book covers for the Media Center, and volunteers for STEM night.

Chorus

Chorus is a musical club designed to let students who enjoy singing to train and grow their voice through proper singing technique Chorus does performances at our school and for different organizations within our community. Chorus is open to 5th grade students and 4th grade students who pass a vocal audition.

Chorus meets on Mondays from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. in Ms. Gaugler’s room.  The cost of participating in Chorus is $30.  This fee covers the cost of a T-shirt, music and royalty fees, food and snacks for Fun Friday.  If a Chorus member returns to participate in spring chorus, there is a $10 renewal fee to cover music fees and Fun Friday in the spring.  New members in the spring pay the initial $30 fee.

Students who are interested in participating chorus must go through an audition   When auditions have been completed an invitation will be sent to those students who qualified.  Click here to access the Chorus Permission Form.

Drama Club

For 5th Grade Students:

Drama Club produces a fall and spring show. 5th grade students may audition for each show. Students will rehearse and perform a scripted play. In Drama Club, students learn the basics of stagecraft, public speaking, creativity and imaginative play, self discipline and team work, the importance of hard work, all while building confidence. Rehearsals are held once a week.

For 5th Grade Students

In the Percussion Club, students will have the opportunity to learn more about music and teamwork by playing a wide variety of instruments together. We will play Xylophones, Drums, Guiros, Claves, Tambourines, and many other percussion instruments! With the club dues, students will receive their own Drum Sticks and a Percussion Club t-shirt! Percussion Club performs two concerts: one in the Winter and one in the Spring. The club generally meets at 3:15 pm on Thursdays, with a couple of exceptions due to the school calendar. Fifth Grade students who are interested in joining Percussion Club can talk to Mrs. Jackson or their teacher about getting a form to turn in. Membership is on a first come first serve basis, so turn those forms in fast!

Lego® Simple Machines™ Robotics Club

For 1st – 2nd Grade Students

Jackson’s Lego® Simple Machines™ Robotics Club is a six-week club offered three times per school year to students in grades 1 - 2.  Students collaborate, problem solve, and explore real-world tasks with a hands-on approach. They investigate the concepts of energy, balance, and mechanics, all while encouraging investigation skills.

Lego® WeDo™ Robotics Club

For 3rd - 5th Grade Students

Jackson’s Lego® WeDo™ Robotics Club is a six-week club offered three times per school year to students in grades 3 – 5.  Students work collaboratively to build and program working robots.  Students learn basic robot parts and program with simple click-and-drag icons to activate a motor, which might also be dependent on a sensor, in a logical and sequential schema.

This club encourages students to persevere when solving problems!

Robolion Cubs

Jackson’s Robolion Cubs Team is a yearlong program offered to *ten students in grades 4 & 5 to compete in the First Lego League (FLL).  The purpose of the FLL program is threefold. First, it is designed to give students an opportunity to develop skills in designing, programming, and testing a fully functioning robot.  Second, students will develop research skills while trying to find a solution to a real life problem. Third, team members will gain experience with collaboration and professionalism while practicing FLL’s core values.  In a nutshell, FLL is a great experience where students gain skills in engineering, logical reasoning, and collaborating with teammates to solve problems.

Math Club

For 4th - 5th Grade Students:

Math Club provides opportunities for students to play math games, including Witzzle Pro, and to compete against peers. Students will learn and practice mental math strategies, analytical skills, and good sportsmanship. Students compete against other elementary school teams in a cluster-wide Witzzle Pro tournament held in the Spring. The game requires quick thinking and knowledge of basic operations (+, -, x, /). Try-outs are held in the fall.

Readers Rally

For 4th - 5th Grade Students

Readers Rally is a quiz-bowl-style competition between all Gwinnett County Schools designed to promote reading. Students will read 15 books from the Readers Rally Book List and participate in discussion and activities pertaining to the books. The club will culminate in a school competition which will determine the team of up to ten students who will go on to the county competition in February.
