For Rising Seventh Graders for 2020-2021 School Year inSPIRE STEM Team Application Process NOW OPEN!

The application is now available for rising seventh grade students to enroll in the Northbrook inSPIRE STEM program for the 2020-2021 school year. inSPIRE is an instructional model that focuses teaching and learning on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through a project-based learning focus. The goal of inSPIRE is to increase college and career readiness through a collaborative and rigorous curriculum and to empower students to become innovators and technologically proficient problem solvers. Typical classroom instructional strategies will include:

    • Focus on Problem Based Learning – Students work individually, in pairs, and in small groups to engage in interdisciplinary projects throughout the semester that allows for a unique learning experience. Projects help students experience the world as it exists outside of the classroom walls.
    • Integration between the Content Areas – Literature, writing, classroom activities, and projects allow students to master skills and content for language arts, math, science, and social studies. This allows in-class experiences to have greater relevance to the student.
    • Emphasis on 21st Century Skills – Students will explicitly practice and hone skills related to critical and creative thinking, collaboration, communication, leadership, and technology.

  • A Note From Your Administrator

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

On behalf of the staff at Northbrook Middle School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2018-19 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. We know a strong relationship with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that at Northbrook, we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

I’m very passionate about education and I look forward to working with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality middle school experience. As a parent who has raised two children, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher, and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.

Today, you will be receiving an abundance of information from your child's teachers and the school in general. Please take the time to review the content and behavior expectations with your child, and be sure to sign and return all required documents.

7th grade is a very exciting and challenging year for students, but with the help of you, our outstanding teachers, and me, we will be able to ensure a very happy and successful school year.  Again, it is truly my pleasure to work with you this year. It was great to meet many of you at Open House, and anyone I did not meet, I look forward to meeting you in the near future. I am here to assist you and your child and will continue to offer an open door policy.  Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact me via email at dora_mckissock@gwinnett.k12.ga.us or my direct line at 678-407-7136.

    Warm Regards,
