Mr. Matt Davis
A charter faculty member of Peachtree Ridge, Mr. Davis been committed to literacy at high levels for all 20 years of teaching. He attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate degree in English education, and received a Master's degree in literary studies from Georgia State. Continued education including Gifted Endorsement, certification from the College Board to teach two AP classes (Language and Research), and participation on county assessment review teams help ensure his growth and contribution to the education of students at GCPS.
As the sponsor for the National English Honors Society, Mr. Davis looks forward to helping these students develop even greater love of the written word and their skills in using it. He also sponsors the Literary Magazine, Paradox, through an after-school club that meets weekly on Thursday afternoon to produce creative writing and a magazine of student writing. They collaborate on writing projects from poetry all to novel writing. Mr. Davis seeks to encourage students in Pride, clubs, and classes to have world and news awareness, as well as good stewardship of the planet--largely through avoiding wasteful consumption and recycling what they can.
Mr. Davis enjoys reading, which he shares with students through the Book Love program, and he encourages them to become stronger readers and writers through a mix of reading for pleasure, writing from prompts (creative, analytical, and persuasive), and close reading activities. As well as reading, he enjoys the martial art Tang Soo Do with his family, rock climbing, biking, disc golf, and table top games.
