Mr. Matt Davis

A charter faculty member of Peachtree Ridge, I have been committed to literacy at high levels for all my 19 years of teaching. I have an extra connection to this school in that I met my would-be wife, Collyn Milsted (currently teaching World Studies at GSMST), when she taught in the room next to mine. We have been happily married for years now, and our son is in fourth grade at Parsons Elementary.
As for my education, I attended the University of Georgia for my undergraduate degree in English education, and I received my Master's degree in literary studies from Georgia State. I have enjoyed the continuing education of Gifted Endorsement and my certification from the College Board to teach two AP classes (Language and Research).
I am the new sponsor for the National English Honors Society, and I look forward to helping these students develop even greater love of the written word and their skills in using it. I also sponsor the Literary Magazine Paradox through an after-school club that meets weekly on Thursday afternoon. We produce a magazine of student writing, and we collaborate on our own writing projects, from poetry all the way to novel writing. I seek to encourage my students in Pride, clubs, and my classes to have world and news awareness, as well as good stewardship of the planet--largely through avoiding wasteful consumption and recycling what they can.
I enjoy reading, which I share with my students through the Book Love program, and I encourage them to become stronger readers and writers through a mix of reading for pleasure, writing from prompts (creative, analytical, and persuasive), and close reading activities. As well as reading, I enjoy the martial art Tang Soo Do with my family, rock climbing, biking, disc golf, and table top games.
