Mr. Nelson Dean
All about Mr. Nelson Dean
Mr. Dean is in his tenth year at Peachtree Ridge High School where he teaches AP World History, AP European History, AP Art History, AP English Language and Composition, and Percussion Methods. He took an undergraduate degree in History with a minor in French as well as a Master’s in Social Studies Education, both from the University of Georgia. Mr. Dean had the honor of being the Peachtree Ridge High School teacher of the year for Peachtree Ridge and a GCPS TOTY semi-finalist for the 2014-15 school year as well as the Gwinnett County Star Teacher for 2016.
In addition to his sitting on three departments at Peachtree Ridge High School, Mr. Dean is also in his thirteenth year as the percussion caption head for the school’s marching percussion program, and serves the PRHS bands in a variety of instructional and design capacities. Mr. Dean is also the sponsor for the school’s chapter of the National History Scholars Society. Outside of PRHS, he has worked as a staff member with more than thirty scholastic and independent percussion programs including Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps and Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps.
In his rare moments of spare time, Mr. Dean loves to cook and travel abroad. He lives in Decatur with his fiancé who is a children’s book author and dance instructor, as well as a cowardly dog (and often one to two foster dogs), a cross-eyed cat, and eight confused chickens.
