Mrs. Debbie G McAfee
Debbie McAfee has been teaching in Gwinnett County for over 30 years; she taught for 20 years at Norcross High School prior to becoming a part of the Charter Faculty at Peachtree Ridge High School. Mrs. McAfee has taught 9th-11th grades of Language Arts and served as the yearbook sponsor at Norcross HS and Peachtree HS for over 12 years, gaining national recognition in both schools for her work. Currently, she is a part of the gifted vertical team in Language Arts at PRHS and works to bring rigor and excellence to her 11th graders and her AP classes. In addition to serving as a Gateway trainer for the past 10 years, she scored AP exams the past 7 summers for College Board in Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas City, Missouri, and this past summer in Tampa. She has also participated twice in a week-long workshop at Walden Pond sponsored by Thoreau Institute in Concord, Massachussetts, serving the role as teaching assistant in 2013. Additionally, she lead the PRHS Reader's Rally Team which tied for 1st place in 2016 GCPS competition.
She received her BS in English Education from UGA in 1983, and her MEd in Secondary English Education in 1994. Additionally, she has earned ESOL and Gifted endorsements along with AP language certification. She continues to work occasionally as a Gateway Trainer for GCPS, helping educators across the district understand and score the assessment and improve their classroom instruction to better prepare their students. Additionally, Mrs McAfee works as an AP consultant, leading AP language workshops throughout the South at struggling schools.
She and her husband, Rick have three wonderful daughters: Sandy (a graduate of UGA and currently working for the Arizona Cardinal organization), Erin (currently attending UGA), and Carson (currently a PRHS junior). They are members of McKendree Methodist Church in Lawrenceville where she participates in the handbell choir and the orchestra and supports the mission team. Her most recent mission trip was to Decatur, Alabama where she volunteered at the UMCOR warehouse.
In her spare time, Mrs. McAfee is an avid reader, reading both adult and YA novels, yet she is always willing to put down her book for the latest UGA Sporting Event. Whether it be football, basketball, or soccer -- Mrs McAfee says GO DAWGS!
