Ms. Melanie Long Walton

Ms. Melanie L. Walton a native of Dayton, Ohio, has taught Biology (college prep and gifted), Chemisty, Biotechnology, Forensics, Food Science, Food Nutrition Through the Lifespan and Food for Life in both the Science and Business Education departments at Peachtree Ridge High School since 2006.  Ms. Walton graduated with a B.S. degree from Tuskegee University with a double major in Animal Science and Biology and Georgia State University with a M.Ed degree in Science Education.  Ms. Walton's certification are in broad field science, biology and gifted science.  She began her career in the private sector working as a Cytogeneticist at Emory University.  After several years as a Medical Technologist, Ms. Walton worked as an adjunct professor at Gwinnett Technical Community College and Science Department Chair at Mill Springs High School in Roswell, GA. a private school that addresses the needs of students who have learning differences.  In 2000, Ms. Walton began her work as a public school teacher in Gwinnett County High Schools.  She has taught science at Norcross and Shiloh High Schools in the subject areas of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Ms. Walton is married to Ronald and has three lovely daughters, Arielle a graduate of Tuskegee University and a Veterinarian in Nashville, TN, Aja a graduate of Howard University and a data analyst in Midtown, New York and Amiya, a Senior majoring in Biology/Pre Med at Spelman College.
