Calling all students who are passionate about art. Art club this year will be taking students who are in 4th or 5th grade and love art. We will be exploring advanced techniques in clay, weaving, drawing and painting. No talent is required only passion for art and a great attitude. We will meet Friday mornings at 7:30 am starting on September 20th at 7:30 am. Applications will be due by September 13th in order to be considered for art club. Spots will be limited this year so please get your applications in.
The Alford Chorus is a performance ensemble that prepares challenging music to be performed at the highest levels possible. Our chorus is an audition-based group of 4th and 5th grade students that meet Monday and Wednesday mornings before school. This club is meant to enrich students as singers, teammates and performers as they prepare music for our after school performances, occurring twice a year.
FIRST Lego League
FIRST has a set of Core Values that are Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork and Fun. We will teach the students all the core values while completing this year’s Challenge called City Shaper! We will be researching how to make a more sustainable future and completing the challenge mat while programming the robot. Students will also learn how to code a robot and how to get it to complete the missions that are assigned. The club will meet on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 until the competition. The 5th Grade team will start in September and will end in December. The 4th Grade team will start in January and end in April.
Google Coding Club
In Coding Club, we will use Google’s CS First program to learn the basics of computer programming and block-based coding. Students will play musical notes, create a music video, and build an interactive music display. During the last 3 weeks of the club, students will have the choice to explore advanced levels of coding: Video Game or Fashion Design. No prior experience in coding is necessary! This club is open to 4th and 5th grade students and is limited to 30 members. We will meet Friday mornings at 7:30 am in the Allison Lab. Dates are 9/13, 9/27, 10/4, 10/25, 11/15, 11/22, 12/6, 1/10, 1/24, 2/7, 2/21, 3/6
Intramural Sports Club
The mission of Intramural Sports Club: To motivate students to become physically active and excited about living a healthy lifestyle. In order to accomplish this, students will participate in different games, activities, and learn and play different team sports. Students will learn to use rules, strategies, techniques, vocabulary, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Alford Titan Intramural Sports Club is open to all boys and girls in grades 3, 4, and 5. We meet in the gym. 3rd & 4th grades meet on Monday mornings at 7:30 AM. 5th grade meets on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 AM.

The mission of Math Club: The Alford Math Club is open to 4th and 5th grade students who have a love for Math. The students will have an opportunity to practice problem solving skills in a fun and non-threatening environment. They will learn to explain and defend their thinking, persevere, and work collaboratively
with a team. All of the students will be invited to participate in the county wide Perennial Math Competition in March. Meeting times and dates will be 7:30 to 8:15am beginning on September 30, 2019. We will meet on the following dates.

Modern Band Club
Alford’s Modern Band club aims to extend the musical education of interested 5th grade students using popular music instruments such as guitars, bass, drums and keyboards. Members of this club will work on popular music from the last 50+ years while learning how to function as a group to create music with a more modern sound. Students will be selected via application, based on the number of instruments available. The Modern Band Club meets before school on Friday mornings.
This club is limited to 4th and 5th grade proficient readers. Members will read from a specified list of books between September and February. A final group of 10 members will be selected by the last meeting date in December. A maximum of 10 players may attend the county competition that will take place in February/March of the school year on the date determined by Media Services at GCPS.We will meet from 7:30 to 8:20 on select Fridays from September - February.
