Suggested Summer Assignments 2019-2020
Summer assignments are suggested as a way to prepare a student for an upcoming class. These assignments are ungraded since they are not explicitly taught. These assignments offer students an opportunity to develop a better foundation before beginning a course.
The Aeneid: any English translation; here's one: http://www.poetryintranslation.com/PITBR/Latin/VirgilAeneidI.htm#anchor_Toc535054289
Caesar's De Bello Gallico: any English translation; here's one: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Vla7aqKnvTUgYxg1KVTyRMgkJ3ABX-UN_o83K9IyVnI/edit
N.B.: Reading the Book 1 of Caesar and Book 1 of Vergil is enough for the summer.
We will read them fully during the year, so you should have paper copies that you can write in.
On-line summaries of The Iliad and of The Odyssey (It is NOT necessary to read Homer's poems in full. Having a general idea of them is enough.)
Bulfinch's Mythology (skip the Norse and Germanic stuff)
ANY Latin Grammar Guide. Review noun cases.
