This course introduces the student to the field of automotive services and repair. The student will be introduced to the automotive industry, shop safety, use of reference materials, use and care of hand and power tools, use of precision measuring instruments, vehicle lubrication and service, wheel and tire service, brake diagnosis service and repair, electrical and electronic systems, and automotive fasteners and their use. The student will recognize and apply diagnostic procedures and industry standard methods of problem solving. The student will use mathematics to properly select tools and fasteners, make precision physical and electrical measurements, complete repair orders, and will practice communication skills necessary to properly function in the automotive service industry. The student will practice skills on mock-ups and actual vehicles. The course is designed to prepare a student for a career in the automotive service industry or for further education in this field at the post-secondary level.
