Message From Our Principal
February 24, 2022
Dear Parents and Community Members,
My name is Dr. Crystal Cooper, and I am honored and excited to be named by the Gwinnett County School Board of Education, the new principal of Starling Elementary School. As a former resident of the City of Grayson, I see this as a homecoming as I have always cherished this close-knit community. As your new principal, I pledge my unwavering support and dedication to continuing the traditions, pride, and success associated with Starling Elementary School and the Grayson Cluster Community.
I moved from New Jersey to Gwinnett County 17 years ago and have enjoyed the experiences, opportunities, and learning that I have gained along the way. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at William Paterson University, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia, and an educational specialist’s degree in Educational Leadership from The University of West Georgia. In 2018, I earned my Ed.D. from the University of Georgia in Educational Administration. In my 25 years as an educator, I have had the good fortune to have a wide range of experiences that have enabled me to help students, staff, and communities grow and achieve at high levels. I previously taught 1st-4th grade in New Jersey and led as a literacy coach and assistant principal at Bethesda Elementary from 2005 to 2012. In 2012, the Gwinnett County Board of Education appointed me to serve as principal of Sycamore Elementary School where I have spent the last 10 years.
On a personal note, my parents both live in Fayetteville, Georgia, and I presently live in Suwanee, Georgia. My hobbies include reading, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and learning new things. Above all, I want you to know that I am committed to building lasting and collaborative relationships with our students, parents, and school community to build upon the incredible legacy of Starling Elementary School. My role in supporting teaching and learning in collaboration with staff remains the foundation for creating and sustaining positive and enjoyable learning environments.
I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and your children. In the coming weeks, I will be hosting numerous opportunities for meet-and-greet meetings with parents and community partners. Along with the amazing staff you already know and love, I look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education. My official start date will be Tuesday, March 1st, and I can’t wait!
Have a wonderful weekend, and I will see you soon!
Crystal Cooper, Ed. D.
